WATER TRANSPORT IN CELLULAR CONNEXON OF HUMAN BODIES

    Mian Wang1, Yongbin Zhang2,*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.17, pp. 1-5, 2021, DOI:10.5098/hmt.17.9

Abstract There is the connexon between neighboring cells in human bodies, which normally has the cylindrical channels with the diameter about 1.5nm. The analysis is here derived for the water transport through such a narrow channel based on the nanoscale flow equation by considering the dynamic, interfacial slippage and non-continuum effects of the water. The calculation shows that when the intracellular fluids of the neighboring cells are not obviously different, there is no wall slippage in the connexon channel and the water flow rate through the channel is significantly smaller than that calculated from the classical… More >

Characterization of the Flexural Behavior of Bamboo Beams

    Limin Tian1,2, Jianpeng Wei3, Jiping Hao1,*, Qiushuo Wang1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.9, pp. 1571-1597, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.015166 - 23 April 2021

Abstract Bamboo is a renewable and environmentally friendly material often used for construction. This study investigates the flexural behavior of bamboo beams through theoretical and finite element (FE) analyses. Considering the material’s nonlinearity, a method of calculating load-deflection curves is proposed and validated via FE analysis. The interfacial slippage dominated by the shear stiffness of the interface between two bamboo poles significantly influences the flexural behavior of double-pole bamboo beams. Thus, the load-deflection curves for different shear stiffnesses can be obtained via theoretical and FE analyses. Subsequently, a novel configuration using diagonal steel bands to avoid More > Graphic Abstract

CRITICAL MULTISCALE FLOW FOR INTERFACIAL SLIPPAGE IN MICROCHANNEL

    Zhipeng Tanga, Yongbin Zhangb,*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.14, pp. 1-5, 2020, DOI:10.5098/hmt.14.26

Abstract The critical flow rate through a micro/nano slit pore for starting the adsorbed layer-fluid or adsorbed layer-wall interfacial slippage is calculated by a multiscale scheme. There are the physical adsorbed layers on the channel walls and the intermediate continuum fluid which are respectively in noncontinuum and continuum flows. The flow factor approach model for nanoscale flow is used to simulate the adsorbed layer flow, and a continuum model describes the continuum fluid flow. The boundary between the adsorbed layer and the continuum fluid or the boundary between the adsorbed layer and the channel wall are More >

INFLUENCE OF THE FLUID-WALL INTERACTION ON THE MULTISCALE FLOW THROUGH A MICRO SLIT PORE CONSIDERING THE ADSORBED LAYER-FLUID INTERFACIAL SLIPPAGE

    Yongbin Zhang*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.13, pp. 1-6, 2019, DOI:10.5098/hmt.13.27

Abstract A multiscale analysis is carried out for the pressure driven flow rate through a micro/nano slit pore when the adsorbed layer-fluid interfacial slippage is considered. The flow of the adsorbed layer on the channel wall is described by the flow factor approach model for nanoscale flow, and the flow of the continuum fluid intermediate between the two adsorbed layers is described by a continuum fluid model. The adsorbed layer-fluid interfacial slippage is considered, while the adsorbed layer-wall surface interfacial slippage is ignored. The weak, medium-level and strong fluid-wall interactions and the solid adsorbed layer assumption… More >

RELATIVE SLIP AMOUNT DEPENDENT ON THE INTERFACIAL SHEAR STRENGTH IN A NANO CHANNEL

Linyue Guan, Mingjun Pang, Hui Wang, Xuedong Jiang, Yongbin Zhang*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-5, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.12

Abstract The paper presents an analysis for the relative slip amount related to the fluid-wall interfacial shear strength in a nano channel formed by two parallel smooth solid planes sliding against one another. A closed-form equation formulation for the relative slip amount was obtained. It was shown that the relative slip amount is constant in the inlet zone of the channel, where the interfacial slippage occurs. This substantiates the assumption made in the analysis of this kind of channel as shown in the study by Zhang (2015). It was also shown that with the increases of More >
