Abstract The use of catalysts has significantly enhanced the yield and quality of in-situ pyrolysis products. However, there is a lack of understanding regarding pyrolysis approaches that utilize several low-cost natural catalysts (LCC) and their placement within the reactor. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effects of various LCC on the in-situ pyrolysis of spirulina platensis microalgae (SPM) and investigate the impact of different types of catalysts. We employed LCC such as zeolite, dolomite, kaolin, and activated carbon, with both layered and uniformly mixed LCC-SPM placements. Each experiment was conducted at a constant temperature of 500°C… More > Graphic Abstract

Appropriate Combination of Crossover Operator and Mutation Operator in Genetic Algorithms for the Travelling Salesman Problem

    Zakir Hussain Ahmed1,*, Habibollah Haron2, Abdullah Al-Tameem3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.79, No.2, pp. 2399-2425, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.049704 - 15 May 2024

Abstract Genetic algorithms (GAs) are very good metaheuristic algorithms that are suitable for solving NP-hard combinatorial optimization problems. A simple GA begins with a set of solutions represented by a population of chromosomes and then uses the idea of survival of the fittest in the selection process to select some fitter chromosomes. It uses a crossover operator to create better offspring chromosomes and thus, converges the population. Also, it uses a mutation operator to explore the unexplored areas by the crossover operator, and thus, diversifies the GA search space. A combination of crossover and mutation operators… More >

Abstract The study presents the Half Max Insertion Heuristic (HMIH) as a novel approach to solving the Travelling Salesman Problem (TSP). The goal is to outperform existing techniques such as the Farthest Insertion Heuristic (FIH) and Nearest Neighbour Heuristic (NNH). The paper discusses the limitations of current construction tour heuristics, focusing particularly on the significant margin of error in FIH. It then proposes HMIH as an alternative that minimizes the increase in tour distance and includes more nodes. HMIH improves tour quality by starting with an initial tour consisting of a ‘minimum’ polygon and iteratively adding… More >

    Abstract

Due to the development of 5G communication, many aspects of information technology (IT) services are changing. With the development of communication technologies such as 5G, it has become possible to provide IT services that were difficult to provide in the past. One of the services made possible through this change is cloud-based collaboration. In order to support secure collaboration over cloud, encryption technology to securely manage dynamic data is essential. However, since the existing encryption technology is not suitable for encryption of dynamic data, a new technology that can provide encryption for dynamic data is

Abstract In order to get to the desired target inside the body, it is essential to investigate the needle-tissue coupling process and calculate the tissue deformation. A cantilever beam model is presented to predicting the deflection and bending angle of flexible needle by analyzing the distribution of the force on needle shaft during the procedure of needle insertion into soft tissue. Furthermore, a finite element (FE) coupling model is proposed to simulate the needle-tissue interactive process. The plane and spatial models are created to relate the needle and tissue nodes. Combined with the cantilever beam model… More >

Dalin Tang*, Chun Yang, Tal Geva‡,§, Pedro J. del Nido

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.4, No.3, pp. 159-176, 2007, DOI:10.3970/mcb.2007.004.159

Abstract A single-layer isotropic patient-specific right/left ventricle and patch (RV/LV/Patch) combination model with fluid-structure interactions (FSI) was introduced in our previous papers to evaluate and optimize human pulmonary valve replacement/insertion (PVR) surgical procedure and patch design. In this paper, an active anisotropic model with two-layer structure for ventricle wall and tissue fiber orientation was introduced to improve previous isotropic model for more accurate assessment of RV function and potential application in PVR surgery and patch design. A material-stiffening approach was used to model active heart contraction. The computational models were used to conduct ``virtual (computational)'' surgeries More >
