Investigation of the Damping Abilities of Sheep Wool Reinforced Expanded Polystyrene Core Layer Composites at Different Energies

    İbrahim Yavuz1,*, Ercan Şimşir1, Kenan Budak2

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.41, No.1, pp. 1-14, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jpm.2024.052279 - 21 June 2024

Abstract In this study, natural fiber reinforced polymer foam core layered composites were produced for the automotive industry. Sheep wool was used as natural fiber. Polymer foam with a single layer XPS foam structure was used as the core material. XPS foams and fibers are bonded to the upper and lower sides of the foams with the help of resin. Samples were produced with one and two layers on both sides, with a total of two and four layers. Production was carried out using the vacuum bagging method using the manual laying method. After the production More >

Analysis of the Impact Resistance of Photovoltaic Panels Based on the Effective Thickness Method

    Jian Gong1, Lingzhi Xie1,2,*, Yongxue Li1, Zhichun Ni3, Qingzhu Wei3, Yupeng Wu4, Haonan Cheng5

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.1, pp. 33-51, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.016262 - 27 July 2021

Abstract Based on the recent development of renewable energy utilization technology, in addition to centralized photovoltaic power plants, distributed photovoltaic power generation systems represented by building-integrated photovoltaic systems are frequently employed for power supply. Therefore, in the architectural design, the double-glass photovoltaic module used in the integrated photovoltaic building system puts forward a higher load-bearing capacity requirement and the corresponding simplified method of carrying capacity check. This article focuses on the simplified method of checking the bearing capacity of the four-sided simply supported double-glass photovoltaic module. First, the principle of equivalent stiffness is used to calculate… More > Graphic Abstract

Effects of Stacking Sequence and Impactor Diameter on Impact Damage of Glass Fiber Reinforced Aluminum Alloy Laminate

    Zhengong Zhou1, Shuang Tian1,2, Jiawei Zhang3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.52, No.2, pp. 105-121, 2016, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2016.052.105

Abstract The methods of numerical simulation and test are combined to analyze the impact behavior of glass fiber reinforced aluminum alloy laminate (GLARE). A new failure criteria is proposed to obtain the impact failure of GLARE, and combined with material progressive damage method by writing code of LS-DYNA. Low velocity impact test of GLARE is employed to validate the feasibility of the finite element model established. The simulation results have been shown that progressive damage finite element model established is reliable. Through the application of the finite element model established, the delamination of GLARE evolution progress More >

Optimization of Johnson-Cook Constitutive Model for Lead-free Solder Using Genetic Algorithm and Finite Element Simulations

    D.S.Liu1, C.L.Hsu1,2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.40, No.3, pp. 165-178, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2014.040.165

Abstract To ensure the reliability of microelectronics packages, the high strain rate deformation behavior of the solder joints must be properly understood. Accordingly, the present study proposes a hybrid experimental / numerical method for determining the optimal constants of the Johnson-Cook (J-C) constitutive model for 96.5Sn-3Ag-0.5Cu (SAC305) solder alloy. In the proposed approach, FEM simulations based on the J-C model are performed to describe the load-time response of an SAC305 ball solder joint under an impact velocity of 0.5 m/s. The optimal values of the constitutive model are then determined using an iterative Genetic Algorithm approach More >

Fringe Projection Assisted Horizontal Impact Testing

    D. Schleh1, D. Liu1

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.9, No.3, pp. 201-216, 2013, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2013.009.201

Abstract Understanding the response of composite materials to dynamic loading is necessary for their safe and efficient application to many of the world’s engineering designs where stiffness-to-weight ratios are vitally important. In this study, fringe projection was used and evaluated as means to measure the out-of-plane displacement of composite materials from impact loading involving a projectile accelerated horizontally through the use of gas. The capability of providing out-ofplane deformation measurements can largely enrich the investigation of composite materials under horizontal impact which are commonly performed without any measurement other than projectile velocity. The out-of-plane displacement history More >

    Eun A Hwang1, Haeng-Ki Lee1, Jong Won Kwark2, Jung Woo Lee2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.12, No.1, pp. 11-12, 2009, DOI:10.3970/icces.2009.012.011

Abstract Concrete structures such as concrete safety barriers are often subjected to direct impact loads mainly due to vehicle crash impact. In this case, the impact resistance is one of the most critical characteristic of concrete used in such structures. The present study aims to characterize the impact resistance of lightweight aggregate cellular concrete (LACC), which will be used in concrete barriers. Impact tests on LACC specimens were carried out based on the repeated drop-weight impact test guideline recommend by ACI committee 544. Impact resistance and compressive strength of the LACC specimens were characterized and the More >
