Towards High-Fidelity and Efficient Computation for Diagnosis and Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease

    Lei Wang1,*, Blanca Rodriguez2, Xiaoyu Luo3, Charles Augarde4

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.30, No.4, pp. 1-2, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.013350

Abstract Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. Disease-specific software, like FFRct from HeartFlow, and high-fidelity computational models within a general-purpose software, like Living Heart Project within Abaqus, are essential to revolutionise diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease for clinicians and design of medical devices for industries. This talk presents our past researches on computational modelling of tear propagation in the aortic dissection [1-2] and of electromechanical coupling in the human heart with the finite element method [3], and our current exploration on high-fidelity and efficient computation and software development for diagnosis and treatment More >

Multiple Perspective of Multipredictor Mechanism and Multihistogram Modification for High-Fidelity Reversible Data Hiding

    Kai Gao1, Chin-Chen Chang1,*, Chia-Chen Lin2,*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.48, No.3, pp. 813-833, 2024, DOI:10.32604/csse.2024.038308 - 20 May 2024

Abstract Reversible data hiding is a confidential communication technique that takes advantage of image file characteristics, which allows us to hide sensitive data in image files. In this paper, we propose a novel high-fidelity reversible data hiding scheme. Based on the advantage of the multipredictor mechanism, we combine two effective prediction schemes to improve prediction accuracy. In addition, the multihistogram technique is utilized to further improve the image quality of the stego image. Moreover, a model of the grouped knapsack problem is used to speed up the search for the suitable embedding bin in each sub-histogram. More >

    N. Ganesh1, Uvaraja Ragavendran2, Kanak Kalita3,*, Paras Jain4, Xiao-Zhi Gao5

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.129, No.2, pp. 443-464, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.014960 - 08 October 2021

Abstract Optimizing the performance of composite structures is a real-world application with significant benefits. In this paper, a high-fidelity finite element method (FEM) is combined with the iterative improvement capability of metaheuristic optimization algorithms to obtain optimized composite plates. The FEM module comprises of ninenode isoparametric plate bending element in conjunction with the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT). A recently proposed memetic version of particle swarm optimization called RPSOLC is modified in the current research to carry out multi-objective Pareto optimization. The performance of the MO-RPSOLC is found to be comparable with the NSGA-III. This work More >

A High-Fidelity Cable-Analogy Continuum Triangular Element for the Large Strain, Large Deformation, Analysis of Membrane Structures

    P.D.Gosling1,2, L. Zhang2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.71, No.3, pp. 203-252, 2011, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2011.071.203

Abstract The analysis of a continuum membrane by means of a discrete network of cables or bars is an efficient and readily tractable approach to the solution of a complex mechanics problem. However, is so doing, compromises are made in the quality of the approximation of the strain field. It is shown in this paper that the original form of the cable-analogy continuum triangle formulation is degraded by an inherent assumption of small strains in the underlying equations, in which the term ßmall" is shown to be "negligibly small". A revised version of this formulation is… More >

    Yongjie Zhang1, Wenyan Wang1, Xinghua Liang1, Yuri Bazilevs2, Ming-Chen Hsu2, Trond Kvamsdal3, Reidar Brekken4, Jørgen Isaksen5

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.42, No.2, pp. 131-150, 2009, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2009.042.131

Abstract This paper describes a comprehensive and high-fidelity finite element meshing approach for patient-specific arterial geometries from medical imaging data, with emphasis on cerebral aneurysm configurations. The meshes contain both the blood volume and solid arterial wall, and are compatible at the fluid-solid interface. There are four main stages for this meshing method: 1) Image segmentation and geometric model construction; 2) Tetrahedral mesh generation for the fluid volume using the octree-based method; 3) Mesh quality improvement stage, in which edge-contraction, pillowing, optimization, geometric flow smoothing, and mesh cutting are applied to the fluid mesh; and 4) More >
