Abstract Background: Alterations in splicing factors contribute to aberrant alternative splicing (AS), which subsequently promotes tumor progression. The splicing factor polypyrimidine tract binding protein 1 (PTBP1) has been shown to facilitate cancer progression by modulating oncogenic variants. However, its specific role and underlying mechanisms in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain to be elucidated. Methods: PTBP1 expression was evaluated in HCC tissues and cell lines. Subsequently, cells were transfected with vectors designed for PTBP1 overexpression or downregulation. The biological function of PTBP1 was assessed in vitro and in vivo using MTS assays, colony formation assays, transwell assays, xenograft formation, tail… More > Graphic Abstract

miR-557 suppresses hepatocellular carcinoma cell proliferation and migration via downregulating CBX4

    BIOCELL, Vol.48, No.7, pp. 1071-1079, 2024, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2024.050519 - 03 July 2024

Abstract Introduction: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a prevalent malignancy, poses significant challenges with high tumor heterogeneity and poor prognosis. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a pivotal role in hepatocarcinogenesis. Although abnormalities in microRNA-557 (miR-557) expression have been implicated in various cancer types, its role in HCC remains unclear. Therefore, there is a need to explore the function of microRNA-557 in HCC. Methods: Candidate miRNAs were identified through screening in GSE108724 and GSE20077. Real-time PCR was employed to analyze the expression level of miR-557 in hepatoma cell lines and tissues. Cell viability and migration assays were applied to assess the… More > Graphic Abstract

Value of Mir-1271 and GPC3 in Prognosis Evaluation of Liver Cancer Patients after Liver Transarterial Chemoembolization

    Xin Chang1,2,#,*, Jin Wang2,#, Caifang Ni1

    Oncologie, Vol.23, No.1, pp. 119-130, 2021, DOI:10.32604/oncologie.2021.014152 - 30 March 2021

Abstract Objective: This research was designed to observe the value of miR-1271 and GPC3 in evaluating the prognosis of liver cancer (LC) patients after liver transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). Methods: A total of 80 patients diagnosed as LC in our hospital from January 2018 to April 2019 were included in the LC group (LCG), and then assigned into a survival group (SG) and a death group (DG) based on prognosis. Seventy healthy subjects undergoing physical examination simultaneously were included in the normal group (NG). miR-1271 and GPC3 in serum of two groups of subjects were tested via qRT-PCR.… More >
