    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.4, pp. 771-786, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.029584 - 28 March 2024

Abstract A numerical method has been used to analyze the flow field related to a NACA 0015 airfoil with and without a flap and assess the influence of the flap height and angle on the surface pressure coefficient, lift coefficient, and drag coefficient. The numerical results demonstrate that the flap can effectively improve the lift coefficient of the airfoil; however, at small attack angles, its influence is significantly reduced. When the angle of attack exceeds the critical stall angle and the flap height is 1.5% of the chord length, the influence of the flap becomes very More >

    Xiaojie Jiang1, Xin Li1, Yining Xu1, Dong Sun1, Julien S. Baker2, Yaodong Gu1,3,*

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.20, No.2, pp. 67-79, 2023, DOI:10.32604/mcb.2023.042910 - 01 November 2023

    Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate whether kinematic data during a countermovement jump (CMJ) could explain the post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) effects following acute resistance exercise. Twenty-four male participants with resistance training and jumping experience were recruited and randomly assigned to either the experimental group (PAPE-stimulus) (n = 12) or the control group (n = 12). In the experimental group, participants performed 5 reps of squats at 80% 1RM to induce PAPE, while the control group received no intervention. Both groups performed three CMJ tests before (PRE) and at immediate (POST0), 4 (POST4), 8

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.8, pp. 1803-1815, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.028423 - 05 June 2023

Abstract The numerical simulations were performed using the AMPS-1D simulator to study the effects of the CZTS as an absorber layer and the contacts’ barrier height on the performance of four ZnO/CdS/CZTS solar cells. To obtain the best cell performances, the barrier heights of the back and front contacts were adjusted between 0.01, 0.77, 0.5, and 1.55 eV, respectively. For simulations, we used the lifetime mode, and the device performances were evaluated under AM1.5 illumination spectra. We found that the efficiency, fill factor, and open-circuit voltage were almost constant at a front contact barrier height of… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Many studies have already shown that dwarfism and moderate delayed leaf senescence positively impact rice yield, but the underlying molecular mechanism of dwarfism and leaf senescence remains largely unknown. Here, using map-based cloning, we identified an allele of DEP2, DDG1, which controls plant height and leaf senescence in rice. The ddg1 mutant displayed dwarfism, short panicles, and delayed leaf senescence. Compared with the wild-type, ddg1 was insensitive to exogenous gibberellins (GA) and brassinolide (BR). DDG1 is expressed in various organs, especially in stems and panicles. Yeast two-hybrid assay, bimolecular fluorescent complementation and luciferase complementation image assay showed that More >

Abstract In the traditional fringe projection profilometry system, the projector and the camera light center are both spatially virtual points. The spatial position relationships specified in the model are not easy to obtain, leading to inaccurate system parameters and affecting measurement accuracy. This paper proposes a method for solving the system parameters of the fringe projection profilometry system, and the spatial position of the camera and projector can be adjusted in accordance with the obtained calibration parameters. The steps are as follows: First, in accordance with the conversion relationship of the coordinate system in the calibration… More >

Abstract Plant height (PH) is a complex trait regulated by the environment and multiple genes. PH directly affects crop yield, harvest index, and lodging resistance. From plant dwarf mutants, many genes related to PH have been identified and described. Nonetheless, the molecular mechanism of height regulation in high-culm rice mutants has not been well studied. By using transcriptome and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), we identified the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between high-culm rice mutants (MUT) and wild-type (WT) and explored the key pathways and potential candidate genes involved in PH regulation. Transcriptome analysis identified… More >

Abstract Pipelines are widely used for transporting oil resources in the context of offshore oil exploitation. The pipeline stress-strength analysis is an important stage in related design and ensuing construction techniques. In this study, assuming representative work environment parameters, pipeline lifting operations are investigated numerically. More specifically, a time-domain coupled dynamic analysis method is used to conduct a hydrodynamic analysis under different current velocities and wave heights. The results show that proper operation requires the lifting points are reasonably set in combination with the length of the pipeline and the position of the lifting device on More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Though numerical wave models have been applied widely to significant wave height prediction, they consume massive computing memory and their accuracy needs to be further improved. In this paper, a two-dimensional (2D) significant wave height (SWH) prediction model is established for the South and East China Seas. The proposed model is trained by Wave Watch III (WW3) reanalysis data based on a convolutional neural network, the bi-directional long short-term memory and the attention mechanism (CNN-BiLSTM-Attention). It adopts the convolutional neural network to extract spatial features of original wave height to reduce the redundant information input… More >
