Annealing Harmony Search Algorithm to Solve the Nurse Rostering Problem

    Mohammed Hadwan1,2,3,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.3, pp. 5545-5559, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.024512

Abstract A real-life problem is the rostering of nurses at hospitals. It is a famous nondeterministic, polynomial time (NP) -hard combinatorial optimization problem. Handling the real-world nurse rostering problem (NRP) constraints in distributing workload equally between available nurses is still a difficult task to achieve. The international shortage of nurses, in addition to the spread of COVID-19, has made it more difficult to provide convenient rosters for nurses. Based on the literature, heuristic-based methods are the most commonly used methods to solve the NRP due to its computational complexity, especially for large rosters. Heuristic-based algorithms in general have problems striking the… More >

The Intelligent Trajectory Optimization of Multistage Rocket with Gauss Pseudo-Spectral Method

    Lihua Zhu1,*, Yu Wang1, Zhiqiang Wu1, Cheire Cheng2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.33, No.1, pp. 291-303, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.024252

Abstract The rapid developments of artificial intelligence in the last decade are influencing aerospace engineering to a great extent and research in this context is proliferating. In this paper, the trajectory optimization of a three-stage launch vehicle in the powering phase subject to the sun-synchronous orbit is considered. To solve the optimal control problem, the Gauss pseudo-spectral method (GPM) is used to transform the optimization model to a nonlinear programming (NLP) problem and sequential quadratic programming is applied to find the optimal solution. However, the sensitivity of the initial guess may cost the solver significant time to do the Newton iteration… More >

Self-Regulated Single-phase Induction Generator for Variable Speed Stand-alone WECS

    Mohamed I. Mossad1,*, Fahd A. banakhr1, Sherif S. M. Ghoneim2, Tarek A. AbdulFattah3, Mohamed Mahmoud Samy4

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.28, No.3, pp. 715-727, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.017534

Abstract This paper introduces voltage self-regulation of a variable speed single-phase induction generator-based wind energy conversion system (WECS) for stand-alone applications. The idea behind the voltage self-regulation technique proposed in this paper is adjusting the fixed capacitor’s effective value for exciting the single-phase induction generator. This adjustment is performed using an inexpensive Sinusoidal PWM (SPWM) switching circuit to short circuit the capacitor during different periods to make a virtual change of the capacitance value extracted from the fixed capacitor. That optimized fixed capacitor size is firstly determined using harmony search (HS) optimization technique. HS is also used to determine the capacitance… More >
