Abstract The intuitive fuzzy set has found important application in decision-making and machine learning. To enrich and utilize the intuitive fuzzy set, this study designed and developed a deep neural network-based glaucoma eye detection using fuzzy difference equations in the domain where the retinal images converge. Retinal image detections are categorized as normal eye recognition, suspected glaucomatous eye recognition, and glaucomatous eye recognition. Fuzzy degrees associated with weighted values are calculated to determine the level of concentration between the fuzzy partition and the retinal images. The proposed model was used to diagnose glaucoma using retinal images and involved utilizing the Convolutional… More >

Abstract Glaucoma is a progressive eye disease that can lead to blindness if left untreated. Early detection is crucial to prevent vision loss, but current manual scanning methods are expensive, time-consuming, and require specialized expertise. This study presents a novel approach to Glaucoma detection using the Enhanced Grey Wolf Optimized Support Vector Machine (EGWO-SVM) method. The proposed method involves preprocessing steps such as removing image noise using the adaptive median filter (AMF) and feature extraction using the previously processed speeded-up robust feature (SURF), histogram of oriented gradients (HOG), and Global features. The enhanced Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) technique is then employed… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.47, No.1, pp. 699-720, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.036744

Abstract Glaucoma is a group of ocular atrophy diseases that cause progressive vision loss by affecting the optic nerve. Because of its asymptomatic nature, glaucoma has become the leading cause of human blindness worldwide. In this paper, a novel computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) approach for glaucomatous retinal image classification has been introduced. It extracts graph-based texture features from structurally improved fundus images using discrete wavelet-transformation (DWT) and deterministic tree-walk (DTW) procedures. Retinal images are considered from both public repositories and eye hospitals. Images are enhanced with image-specific luminance and gradient transitions for both contrast and texture improvement. The enhanced images are mapped… More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.2, pp. 1283-1299, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.033200

Abstract Retinal fundus images are used to discover many diseases. Several Machine learning algorithms are designed to identify the Glaucoma disease. But the accuracy and time consumption performance were not improved. To address this problem Max Pool Convolution Neural Kuan Filtered Tobit Regressive Segmentation based Radial Basis Image Classifier (MPCNKFTRS-RBIC) Model is used for detecting the Glaucoma and Stargardt’s disease by early period using higher accuracy and minimal time. In MPCNKFTRS-RBIC Model, the retinal fundus image is considered as an input which is preprocessed in hidden layer 1 using weighted adaptive Kuan filter. Then, preprocessed retinal fundus is given for hidden… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.43, No.3, pp. 1041-1055, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.023680

Abstract Today, many eye diseases jeopardize our everyday lives, such as Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), and Glaucoma. Glaucoma is an incurable and unavoidable eye disease that damages the vision of optic nerves and quality of life. Classification of Glaucoma has been an active field of research for the past ten years. Several approaches for Glaucoma classification are established, beginning with conventional segmentation methods and feature-extraction to deep-learning techniques such as Convolution Neural Networks (CNN). In contrast, CNN classifies the input images directly using tuned parameters of convolution and pooling layers by extracting features. But, the volume of training… More >

Soft Computing Based Discriminator Model for Glaucoma Diagnosis

    Anisha Rebinth1,*, S. Mohan Kumar2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.42, No.3, pp. 867-880, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.022955

Abstract In this study, a Discriminator Model for Glaucoma Diagnosis (DMGD) using soft computing techniques is presented. As the biomedical images such as fundus images are often acquired in high resolution, the Region of Interest (ROI) for glaucoma diagnosis must be selected at first to reduce the complexity of any system. The DMGD system uses a series of pre-processing; initial cropping by the green channel’s intensity, Spatially Weighted Fuzzy C Means (SWFCM), blood vessel detection and removal by Gaussian Derivative Filters (GDF) and inpainting algorithms. Once the ROI has been selected, the numerical features such as colour, spatial domain features from… More >

Abstract While the usage of digital ocular fundus image has been widespread in ophthalmology practice, the interpretation of the image has been still on the hands of the ophthalmologists which are quite costly. We explored a robust deep learning system that detects three major ocular diseases: diabetic retinopathy (DR), glaucoma (GLC), and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The proposed method is composed of two steps. First, an initial quality evaluation in the classification system is proposed to filter out poor-quality images to enhance its performance, a technique that has not been explored previously. Second, the transfer learning technique is used with various… More >

Abstract Irretrievable loss of vision is the predominant result of Glaucoma in the retina. Recently, multiple approaches have paid attention to the automatic detection of glaucoma on fundus images. Due to the interlace of blood vessels and the herculean task involved in glaucoma detection, the exactly affected site of the optic disc of whether small or big size cup, is deemed challenging. Spatially Based Ellipse Fitting Curve Model (SBEFCM) classification is suggested based on the Ensemble for a reliable diagnosis of Glaucoma in the Optic Cup (OC) and Optic Disc (OD) boundary correspondingly. This research deploys the Ensemble Convolutional Neural Network… More >
