Physiological Responses of Pea Plants to Salinity and Gibberellic Acid

    Houneida Attia1,2,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.1, pp. 149-164, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.022363 - 06 September 2022

Abstract Pea is a seed legume. It is rich in cellulose fibre and protein. It is also a significant source of minerals and vitamins. In this paper, we set out to better characterize the physiological responses of Pisum sativum L. to the combined effects of NaCl, 100 mM and gibberellins (GA3). Our analysis revealed that NaCl caused a decrease in growth resulting in a reduction in root elongation, distribution and density, leaf number and leaf area, and a decrease in dry matter of roots and shoots. However, the contribution of GA3 in the salty environment induced an… More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.2, pp. 515-531, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.013619 - 07 February 2021

Abstract The need for renewable energy sources makes microalgae an essential feedstock for biofuels production. The molecular aspects and the response to nitrogen (N)-limited conditions with a phytohormone stimulus in microalgae have been slightly explored. In this work, Scenedesmus obliquus was used as a study model to analyze the effect of benzyl amino purine (BAP) and gibberellic acid (GA) coupled to nitrogen limitation on cell growth, biomass and fatty acids. The selected 10-5 M BAP increased the biomass by 1.44-fold, and 10-6 M GA by 1.35-fold. The total lipids also increased by 2.8 and 1.11-fold, respectively. The 10-5 M… More >

Influences of ascorbic acid and gibberellic acid in alleviating effects of salinity in Petunia under in vitro

    Krupa-Małkiewicz M1, B Smolik2, M Sędzik2

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.88, No.1, pp. 15-23, 2019, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2019.04670

Abstract Salinity is one of the abiotic stresses that limits the growth and productivity of many crops. A possible survival strategy for plant under saline conditions is to use compounds that could minimize the harmful effects of salt stress on the plant development. The objective of the presented study was to investigate the effect of exogenous ascorbic acid (ASA) with or without gibberellic acid (GA3) on key growth and biochemical parameters in two petunia cultivars ‘Prism Rose’ and ‘Prism White’ under saline (150 mM NaCl) and non-saline in vitro condition. Nodal cutting with an axillary buds… More >

Effect of gibberellic acid on postharvest of sunflower and its potassium fertilization in alkaline soil

    Díaz-López E1, A Morales-Ruíz1, A Olivar-Hernández1, HR Bravo-Delgado2, JM Loeza-Corte3

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.87, pp. 18-24, 2018, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2018.87.018

Abstract Sunflower is a crop that is used as ornamental, oleaginous, forage, and currently as a bioremediation plant, of hard water affected soils. For this reason, the main objective of this investigation was to study the effect of potassium fertilization on yield under field conditions, and the effect of gibberellic acid (GA3), at postharvest of inflorescences. Two experiments were established, under field and laboratory conditions. In the field experiment, four levels of potassium, 0, 50, 100 and 150 kg/ha were evaluated, under a randomized complete block design and four replicates (4×4) = 16 experimental units. The variables… More >

Germination of simojovel pepper seeds (Capsicum annuum L.) previously exposed to NaCl and gibberellic acid

    De la Rosa M1, L Arce1, JA Villarreal1, L Ibarra2, J Lozano3

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.81, pp. 165-168, 2012, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2012.81.165

Abstract Simojovel pepper seeds were first treated with 0.5 M NaCl, and then put to germinate in solutions of gibberellic acid at different concentrations. Initially, seeds were either preconditioned or not with NaCl combined with 0, 100, 200, 300 or 400 mg/L gibberellic acid. In a second phase of the study, seeds preconditioned with NaCl were exposed to 0, 350, 400, 450 or 500 mg/L gibberellic acid. Experiments were arranged in a completely randomized design with a factorial arrangement of 2 x 5 with four replications. The greatest (p≤0.01) germination percentage (91.75%) was obtained on seeds More >
