Implication of Water-Rock Interaction for Enhancing Shale Gas Production

    Qiuyang Cheng1,2,3, Lijun You3,*, Cheng Chang1,2, Weiyang Xie1,2, Haoran Hu1,2, Xingchen Wang1,2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.7, pp. 1441-1462, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2024.051200 - 23 July 2024

Abstract Horizontal well drilling and multi-stage hydraulic fracturing technologies are at the root of commercial shale gas development and exploitation. During these processes, typically, a large amount of working fluid enters the formation, resulting in widespread water-rock interaction. Deeply understanding such effects is required to optimize the production system. In this study, the mechanisms of water-rock interaction and the associated responses of shale fabric are systematically reviewed for working fluids such as neutral fluids, acid fluids, alkali fluids and oxidative fluids. It is shown that shale is generally rich in water-sensitive components such as clay minerals,… More >

Gas-Water Production of a Continental Tight-Sandstone Gas Reservoir under Different Fracturing Conditions

    Yan Liu1, Tianli Sun2, Bencheng Wang1,*, Yan Feng2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.6, pp. 1165-1180, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.041852 - 27 June 2024

Abstract A numerical model of hydraulic fracture propagation is introduced for a representative reservoir (Yuanba continental tight sandstone gas reservoir in Northeast Sichuan). Different parameters are considered, i.e., the interlayer stress difference, the fracturing discharge rate and the fracturing fluid viscosity. The results show that these factors affect the gas and water production by influencing the fracture size. The interlayer stress difference can effectively control the fracture height. The greater the stress difference, the smaller the dimensionless reconstruction volume of the reservoir, while the flowback rate and gas production are lower. A large displacement fracturing construction More >

A Data-Oriented Method to Optimize Hydraulic Fracturing Parameters of Tight Sandstone Reservoirs

Zhengrong Chen*, Mao Jiang, Chuanzhi Ai, Jianshu Wu, Xin Xie

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.6, pp. 1657-1669, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.030222 - 21 May 2024

Abstract Based on the actual data collected from the tight sandstone development zone, correlation analysis using the Spearman method was conducted to determine the main factors influencing the gas production rate of tight sandstone fracturing. An integrated model combining geological engineering and numerical simulation of fracture propagation and production was completed. Based on data analysis, the hydraulic fracture parameters were optimized to develop a differentiated fracturing treatment adjustment plan. The results indicate that the influence of geological and engineering factors in the X1 and X2 development zones in the study area differs significantly. Therefore, it is… More >

A Feasibility Study of Using Geothermal Energy to Enhance Natural Gas Production from Offshore Gas Hydrate Reservoirs by CO2 Swapping

    Md Nahin Mahmood*, Boyun Guo

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.12, pp. 2707-2720, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.042996 - 29 November 2023

Abstract The energy industry faces a significant challenge in extracting natural gas from offshore natural gas hydrate (NGH) reservoirs, primarily due to the low productivity of wells and the high operational costs involved. The present study offers an assessment of the feasibility of utilizing geothermal energy to augment the production of natural gas from offshore gas hydrate reservoirs through the implementation of the methane-CO2 swapping technique. The present study expands the research scope of the authors beyond their previous publication, which exclusively examined the generation of methane from marine gas hydrates. Specifically, the current investigation explores the… More >

Experimental Study on the Influence of Fracturing Fluid Retention on Shale Gas Diffusion Law

    Zhiyuan Yao1,2,3, Jing Sun1,2,3,*, Dehua Liu1,2,3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.8, pp. 1853-1866, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.025846 - 05 June 2023

Abstract Shale gas reservoirs have poor physical properties and a large number of micro-nano pores have been developed. Shale gas wells have no natural productivity and need fracturing reconstruction measures to put into production. However, the fracturing fluid will enter the reservoir space of shale matrix after fracturing and affect the production of shale gas. At present, there is no consensus on the influence of fracturing fluid retention on gas well production. Based on this, the paper adopts gas molecular transport analyzer to carry out experimental research on the influence of fracturing fluid on shale gas… More >

Development and Application of a Production Data Analysis Model for a Shale Gas Production Well

    Dongkwon Han, Sunil Kwon*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.16, No.3, pp. 411-424, 2020, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2020.08388 - 25 May 2020

Abstract This paper presents the development and application of a production data analysis software that can analyze and forecast the production performance and reservoir properties of shale gas wells. The theories used in the study were based on the analytical and empirical approaches. Its reliability has been con- firmed through comparisons with a commercial software. Using transient data relating to multi-stage hydraulic fractured horizontal wells, it was confirmed that the accuracy of the modified hyperbolic method showed an error of approximately 4% compared to the actual estimated ultimate recovery (EUR). On the basis of the developed More >

    Kabir Fardad1, Bahman Najafi1, Sina Faizollahzadeh Ardabili1, Amir Mosavi2,3, Shahaboddin Shamshirband,4,5,*, Timon Rabczuk2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.55, No.3, pp. 381-392, 2018, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2018.01803

Abstract Glycyrrhiza glabra, Mint, Cuminum cyminum, Lavender and Arctium medicinal are considered as edible plants with therapeutic properties and as medicinal plants in Iran. After extraction process of medicinal plants, residual wastes are not suitable for animal feed and are considered as waste and as an environmental threat. At present there is no proper management of waste of these plants and they are burned or buried. The present study discusses the possibility of biogas production from Glycyrrhiza Glabra Waste (GGW), Mentha Waste (MW), Cuminum Cyminum Waste (CCW), Lavender Waste (LW) and Arctium Waste (AW). 250 g… More >
