Seung Hee Eom, Tae Kyung Hyun*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.11, pp. 3077-3090, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.044032 - 24 October 2023

Abstract Heat and drought are prominent abiotic stressors that limit crop productivity and yield, particularly concerning climate change; therefore, understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying plant stress responses is crucial for stress-tolerant crop production. This study conducted a transcriptomic analysis to elucidate how garlic (Allium sativum L.) responds to drought and heat stress conditions. Transcriptome libraries were generated to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) induced by drought and heat stresses. Functional classification and clustering analysis of DEGs revealed stress-specific gene expression patterns. Notably, cell wall-related genes were implicated in the drought response, whereas heat stress was associated with More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.58, No.1, pp. 183-195, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.03792

Abstract In order to solve the hidden regional relationship among garlic prices, this paper carries out spatial quantitative analysis of garlic price data based on ArcGIS technology. The specific analysis process is to collect prices of garlic market from 2015 to 2017 in different regions of Shandong Province, using the Moran's Index to obtain monthly Moran indicators are positive, so as to analyze the overall positive relationship between garlic prices; then using the geostatistical analysis tool in ArcGIS to draw a spatial distribution Grid diagram, it was found that the price of garlic has a significant… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.57, No.2, pp. 283-296, 2018, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2018.03791

Abstract Garlic prices fluctuate dramatically in recent years and it is very difficult to predict garlic prices. The autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model is currently the most important method for predicting garlic prices. However, the ARIMA model can only predict the linear part of the garlic prices, and cannot predict its nonlinear part. Therefore, it is urgent to adopt a method to analyze the nonlinear characteristics of garlic prices. After comparing the advantages and disadvantages of several major prediction models which used to forecast nonlinear time series, using support vector machine (SVM) model to predict… More >

Biochemical and molecular evidences of the presence of a plant natriuretic peptide in garlic (Allium sativum L.)

    Valle-Rodríguez CM1, S Valdés-Rodríguez2, NL Vasco-Méndez1, C Garcidueñas-Piña1, RE Soria-Guerra3, JF Morales-Domínguez1

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.86, pp. 143-150, 2017, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2017.86.143

Abstract The natriuretic peptides (NP) are vertebrate hormones involved in the regulation of ion and water homeostasis in the cell. In plants, natriuretic peptides (PNP) have been identified by molecular and biochemical methods. It has been suggested that PNPs, have similar functions to the PN, since they mediate (1) ion transport through the cell, (2) the opening and closing of Na+ and K+ channels through the stimulation and synthesis of a second messenger such as cGMP, and (3) the aperture of stomata. In this study, a PNPs gene was partially identified by PCR in garlic (Allium sativum L.),… More >

    Jiménez-Vázquez P1, JA Rangel-Lucio2, M Mendoza-Elos1, F Cervantes-Ortíz1, JG Rivera-Reyes1

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.83, pp. 83-91, 2014, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2014.83.083

Abstract The production and quality of garlic (Allium sativum L.) depend on agronomics management, physiological and sanitary characteristics of bulbs or bulbils used at sowing, and economic resources. The objective of this assay was to evaluate the effects of garlic bulb and bulbil sizes, and of plant density, on seedling emergence, and garlic bulb yield and quality cv. Taiwan. The garlic bulbs and bulbils classified and selected by size were made from Extra Flor, Gigante and Jumbo garlic bulbs. They were sown at three plant densities (333000, 285710 and 250000 plants/ha) in a split plot experimental… More >

Cytogenetical and ultrastructural effects of copper on root meristem cells of Allium sativum L.

    DONGHUA LIU1*, WUSHENG JIANG2, QINGMIN MENG1, JIN ZOU1, JIEGANG GU1, MUAI ZENG1

    BIOCELL, Vol.33, No.1, pp. 25-32, 2009, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2009.33.025

Abstract Different copper concentrations, as well as different exposure times, were applied to investigate both cytogenetical and ultrastructural alterations in garlic (Allium sativum L.) meristem cells. Results showed that the mitotic index decreased progressively when either copper concentration or exposure time increased. C-mitosis, anaphase bridges, chromosome stickiness and broken nuclei were observed in the copper treated root tip cells. Some particulates containing the argyrophilic NOR-associated proteins were distributed in the nucleus of the root-tip cells and the amount of this particulate material progressively increased with increasing exposure time. Finally, the nucleolar material was extruded from the nucleus More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.77, pp. 81-91, 2008, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2008.77.081

Abstract The objective of this study was to compare the yield and genetic relationships between two Perla garlic selections, obtained by individual selection of cloves, and commercial varieties and cultivars adapted to diverse regions of Mexico (which did not have a selection process). Varieties with fewer cloves showed higher yields. Coreano and California produced 20 ton/ha (fresh weight) and Perla selections between 17-19 ton/ha (fresh weight). Six primers of the series OPB were tested for genetic characterization and OPB-17 was selected. With the amplified DNA fragments, a bina-ry matrix was generated; afterwards, a dissimilarity matrix and More >
