Towards High Reynolds Number Flows by a High-Order SPH Method

Abstract DNS simulations on incompressible flows with high Reynolds number using meshfree methods remain an enduring challenge to be addressed. In the present work, we attempt to use a high-order SPH scheme (TENO-SPH) to make DNS simulations on high Reynolds number flows. To investigate this, several spatial reconstructions are applied under the Riemann-ALE-SPH framework, and their performances are compared. Particularly, the accuracy of SPH is significantly enhanced by WENO and TENO reconstructions. For free surface flows, we implement a Lagrangian TENO-SPH to reproduce these flows at different Reynolds numbers. More importantly, to make DNS simulations, the More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.101, No.4, pp. 249-297, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2014.101.249

Abstract In this work, a corrected three-dimensional smoothed particle hydrodynamics (CSPH-3D) method is proposed to simulate the polymer free surface flows in the filling process based on the eXtended Pom-Pom (XPP) model, and some complex deformation phenomena are also numerically predicted. The proposed CSPH-3D method is mainly motivated by a coupled concept that an extended kernel-gradient-corrected SPH (KGC-SPH) method is used in the interior of fluid flow and the traditional SPH (TSPH) method is used near the boundary domain. The present 3D particle method has higher accuracy and better stability than the TSPH-3D method. Meanwhile, a… More >

A Spectrally Accurate Quadrature for 3-D Boundary Integrals

    Gregory Baker1, Huaijian Zhang1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.80, No.3&4, pp. 219-232, 2011, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2011.080.219

Abstract Boundary integral methods have proved very useful in the simulation of free surface motion, in part, because only information at the surface is necessary to track its motion. However, the velocity of the surface must be calculated quite accurately, and the error must be reasonably smooth, otherwise the surface buckles as numerical inaccuracies grow, leading to a failure in the simulation. For two-dimensional motion, the surface is just a curve and the boundary integrals are simple poles that may be removed, allowing spectrally accurate numerical integration. For three-dimensional motion, the singularity in the integrand, although More >
