Abstract The aim of this study is to design, build, and evaluate an indirect forced convection solar dryer adapted to semi-arid climate, such as that of Béchar situated in the west south region of Algeria. The tested drying system consists of a flat-plate solar collector, an insulated two-chamber drying unit, and an Arduino-controlled device that ensures uniform temperature distribution and real-time monitoring using DHT22 sensors. Drying tests were conducted on locally grown beet slices at air temperatures of 45°C, 60°C, and 80°C, with a constant air velocity of 1.2 m/s and a mass flow rate of… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Re-engineering the channel heat exchangers (CHEs) is the goal of many recent studies, due to their great importance in the scope of energy transport in various industrial and environmental fields. Changing the internal geometry of the CHEs by using extended surfaces, i.e., VGs (vortex generators), is the most common technique to enhance the efficiency of heat exchangers. This work aims to develop a new design of solar collectors to improve the overall energy efficiency. The study presents a new channel design by introducing VGs. The FVM (finite volume method) was adopted as a numerical technique… More >

Models for Calculating Composition of Alloy in Liquid Phase Epitaxy Considering Forced-convection

    Hiromoto Susawa

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.17, No.1, pp. 15-16, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.017.015

Abstract Liquid Phase Epitaxy is a crystal growth on a substrate from liquid solution, which is a melt in this paper. Before growth, a melt is separated from a substrate and supercooled. When growth starts, the melt moves to the substrate. This induces flow in the melt. This paper considers the influence of flow on the composition of solid phase, reviews previous simulation models and introduces a new model. A one-dimensional model explained an experimental result and a major behavior of solid compositional variation. A semi-two-dimensional (semi-2-D) model dealt with transport in the melt as 2-D… More >
