    Qianyao Zhu1, Kaizhou Gao1,*, Wuze Huang1, Zhenfang Ma1, Adam Slowik2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.80, No.3, pp. 3573-3589, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.055244 - 12 September 2024

Abstract The flow shop scheduling problem is important for the manufacturing industry. Effective flow shop scheduling can bring great benefits to the industry. However, there are few types of research on Distributed Hybrid Flow Shop Problems (DHFSP) by learning assisted meta-heuristics. This work addresses a DHFSP with minimizing the maximum completion time (Makespan). First, a mathematical model is developed for the concerned DHFSP. Second, four Q-learning-assisted meta-heuristics, e.g., genetic algorithm (GA), artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and differential evolution (DE), are proposed. According to the nature of DHFSP, six local search operations… More >

An Elite-Class Teaching-Learning-Based Optimization for Reentrant Hybrid Flow Shop Scheduling with Bottleneck Stage

Deming Lei, Surui Duan, Mingbo Li*, Jing Wang

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.79, No.1, pp. 47-63, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.049481 - 25 April 2024

Abstract Bottleneck stage and reentrance often exist in real-life manufacturing processes; however, the previous research rarely addresses these two processing conditions in a scheduling problem. In this study, a reentrant hybrid flow shop scheduling problem (RHFSP) with a bottleneck stage is considered, and an elite-class teaching-learning-based optimization (ETLBO) algorithm is proposed to minimize maximum completion time. To produce high-quality solutions, teachers are divided into formal ones and substitute ones, and multiple classes are formed. The teacher phase is composed of teacher competition and teacher teaching. The learner phase is replaced with a reinforcement search of the More >

Competitive and Cooperative-Based Strength Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm for Green Distributed Heterogeneous Flow Shop Scheduling

    Kuihua Huang1, Rui Li2, Wenyin Gong2,*, Weiwei Bian3, Rui Wang1

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.37, No.2, pp. 2077-2101, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.040215 - 21 June 2023

Abstract This work aims to resolve the distributed heterogeneous permutation flow shop scheduling problem (DHPFSP) with minimizing makespan and total energy consumption (TEC). To solve this NP-hard problem, this work proposed a competitive and cooperative-based strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm (CCSPEA) which contains the following features: 1) An initialization based on three heuristic rules is developed to generate a population with great diversity and convergence. 2) A comprehensive metric combining convergence and diversity metrics is used to better represent the heuristic information of a solution. 3) A competitive selection is designed which divides the population into a… More >

    Yadian Geng1, Junqing Li1,2,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.1, pp. 241-266, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.020307 - 24 August 2022

Abstract To solve the distributed hybrid flow shop scheduling problem (DHFS) in raw glass manufacturing systems, we investigated an improved hyperplane assisted evolutionary algorithm (IhpaEA). Two objectives are simultaneously considered, namely, the maximum completion time and the total energy consumptions. Firstly, each solution is encoded by a three-dimensional vector, i.e., factory assignment, scheduling, and machine assignment. Subsequently, an efficient initialization strategy embeds two heuristics are developed, which can increase the diversity of the population. Then, to improve the global search abilities, a Pareto-based crossover operator is designed to take more advantage of non-dominated solutions. Furthermore, a More >

Hybrid Flow Shop with Setup Times Scheduling Problem

    Mahdi Jemmali1,2,3,*, Lotfi Hidri4

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.44, No.1, pp. 563-577, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.022716 - 01 June 2022

Abstract The two-stage hybrid flow shop problem under setup times is addressed in this paper. This problem is NP-Hard. on the other hand, the studied problem is modeling different real-life applications especially in manufacturing and high performance-computing. Tackling this kind of problem requires the development of adapted algorithms. In this context, a metaheuristic using the genetic algorithm and three heuristics are proposed in this paper. These approximate solutions are using the optimal solution of the parallel machines under release and delivery times. Indeed, these solutions are iterative procedures focusing each time on a particular stage where… More >

Heuristic Scheduling of Job Orders in a Build-to-Order Manufacturing System

    Chia-Nan Wang1, Chien-Chang Chou2, Yu-Chi Chung1,*, Nguyen Ky Phuc Phan3, Van Thanh Nguyen4, Viet Tinh Nguyen4

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.40, No.3, pp. 1059-1072, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.018259 - 24 September 2021

Abstract With the continuous development of technology, traditional manual work has been becoming more and more automated. Most large or medium-sized companies have applied Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software into their business and production activities. However, since many small firms cannot afford ERP because of its expensive cost, they often still employ manual work for the same tasks this software resolves, especially for scheduling. This paper aims to provide a possible solution for small businesses to try automated scheduling and discover whether it can help much. There are two main ways to make this determination: a… More >

Scheduling Flexible Flow Shop in Labeling Companies to Minimize the Makespan

    Chia-Nan Wang1, Hsien-Pin Hsu2, Hsin-Pin Fu3,*, Nguyen Ky Phuc Phan4, Van Thanh Nguyen5

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.40, No.1, pp. 17-36, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.016992 - 26 August 2021

Abstract In the competitive global marketplace, production scheduling plays a vital role in planning in manufacturing. Scheduling deals directly with the time to output products quickly and with a low production cost. This research examines case study of a Radio-Frequency Identification labeling department at Avery Dennison. The main objective of the company is to have a method that allows for the sequencing and scheduling of a set of jobs so it can be completed on or before the customer’s due date to minimize the number of late orders. This study analyzes the flexible flow shop scheduling More >

An Efficient Hybrid Algorithm for a Bi-objectives Hybrid Flow Shop Scheduling

    S. M. Mousavia, M. Zandiehb

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.24, No.1, pp. 9-16, 2018, DOI:10.1080/10798587.2016.1261956

Abstract This paper considers the problem of scheduling n independent jobs in g-stage hybrid flow shop environment. To address the realistic assumptions of the proposed problem, two additional traits were added to the scheduling problem. These include setup times, and the consideration of maximum completion time together with total tardiness as objective function. The problem is to determine a schedule that minimizes a convex combination of objectives. A procedure based on hybrid the simulated annealing; genetic algorithm and local search so-called HSA-GA-LS are proposed to handle this problem approximately. The performance of the proposed algorithm is More >
