Study on the Flow Dead Zone in the Shell of an Industrial Tubular Fixed Bed Reactor

    Binbin Hao1, Zhenming Liu1,*, Yajun Deng1,*, Dongliang Sun1, Wei Zhang1, Bo Yu1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.012194

Abstract The tubular fixed bed reactor is widely used in industrial production because of its strong applicability, high stability and easy maintenance. The flow dead zone in the shell of the reactor will significantly affect the overall performance of the reactor. Reducing the flow dead zone in the shell is the main way to optimize the performance of tubular fixed bed reactor. At present, most of the research on the flow dead zone of the reactor is based on the simplified reactor model, the number and size of tubes are far from the industrial requirements. In… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.6, pp. 1535-1549, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.024300 - 30 January 2023

Abstract In this study, the potential of a low-cost bio-adsorbent, taken directly from Date Palm Trunk Fibers (DPTF) agricultural wastes, for cadmium ions removal from wastewaters is examined. The performances of this adsorbent are evaluated by building breakthrough curves at different bed heights and flow rates while keeping other parameters, such as the initial feed concentration, pH, and particle size, constant. The results indicate that the maximum cadmium adsorption capacity of DTPF can be obtained from the Thomas model as 51.5 mg/g with the most extended mass transfer zone of 83 min at the lowest flow More > Graphic Abstract

An Experimental Study on Drying of Pistacia Terebinthus in a Fixed Bed Dryer

    A. Balbay1, H. Ülker2, Ö. Şahin3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.9, No.1, pp. 1-10, 2013, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2013.009.001

Abstract In this study, drying behaviours of the outer shell peeled Bittim (Pistacia terebinthus) with initial moisture content of 42.2% (dry basis (d.b)) was investigated in a novel fixed bed drying system. The drying experiments were performed at different temperatures (40 °C, 60 °C and 80 °C), air velocities (0.5 m/s and 1 m/s) and weights (30 g and 40 g). A constant rate period was not observed in the drying of bittims; all the drying process occurred in falling rate period. Three models in literature were selected to fit the experimental data. The fit quality of models More >
