Effect of Bio-Based Organic‒Inorganic Hybrid Hydrogels on Fire Prevention of Spontaneous Combustion of Coals

Hu Shi, Wei Cai, Xin Wang*, Lei Song, Yuan Hu*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.12, pp. 3991-4006, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.029888

Abstract To solve the fire accidents caused by coal combustion, this work prepared four hybrid hydrogel materials using bio-based polymers, flame retardants, and inorganic materials. Compared to pure water and 3.5 wt% MgCl2 solution, the as-prepared hydrogel presents good fire prevention performance. In addition, it is found that CO and CO2 are not produced by coal when the pyrolysis temperature is lower than 200°C. During low-temperature pyrolysis, CO is more likely to be produced than CO2, indicating inadequate pyrolysis behavior. At the same time, the addition of fire-preventing hydrogel can not only decrease the maximum CO2 concentration before the critical temperature… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Earth resource and environmental monitoring are essential areas that can be used to investigate the environmental conditions and natural resources supporting sustainable policy development, regulatory measures, and their implementation elevating the environment. Large-scale forest fire is considered a major harmful hazard that affects climate change and life over the globe. Therefore, the early identification of forest fires using automated tools is essential to avoid the spread of fire to a large extent. Therefore, this paper focuses on the design of automated forest fire detection using a fusion-based deep learning (AFFD-FDL) model for environmental monitoring. The AFFD-FDL technique involves the design… More >

Abstract Living under ongoing shelling and missile attacks could cause a widespread of disruption of everyday life and emotional distress. Coping with such distress could be associated with the personal resources of religion and spirituality. The present study aimed to examine the relationships between religiosity and spirituality with Post Traumatic stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms among a civilian population frequently exposed to missile and rocket threats. One hundred and twenty-four (N = 124) civilian participants living within 10 km from shelling and missile attacks fired towards them, completed demographic, religiosity, spirituality, and PTSD questionnaires. The study findings demonstrate that religiosity is associated… More >

Abstract Regarding the spatial profile extraction method of a multi-field co-simulation dataset, different extraction directions, locations, and numbers of profiles will greatly affect the representativeness and integrity of data. In this study, a multi-field co-simulation data extraction method based on adaptive infinitesimal elements is proposed. The multi-field co-simulation dataset based on related infinitesimal elements is constructed, and the candidate directions of data profile extraction undergo dimension reduction by principal component analysis to determine the direction of data extraction. Based on the fireworks algorithm, the data profile with optimal representativeness is searched adaptively in different data extraction intervals to realize the adaptive… More > Graphic Abstract

    Nitin Mittal1, Rohit Salgotra2,3, Abhishek Sharma4, Sandeep Kaur5, S. S. Askar6, Mohamed Abouhawwash7,8,*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.37, No.3, pp. 3159-3177, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.041059

Abstract The optimization of cognitive radio (CR) system using an enhanced firefly algorithm (EFA) is presented in this work. The Firefly algorithm (FA) is a nature-inspired algorithm based on the unique light-flashing behavior of fireflies. It has already proved its competence in various optimization problems, but it suffers from slow convergence issues. To improve the convergence performance of FA, a new variant named EFA is proposed. The effectiveness of EFA as a good optimizer is demonstrated by optimizing benchmark functions, and simulation results show its superior performance compared to biogeography-based optimization (BBO), bat algorithm, artificial bee colony, and FA. Performance Evaluation of Three-Dimensional UWB Real-Time Locating Auto-Positioning System for Fire Rescue

    Hang Yang1,2,3,*, Xunbo Li1, Witold Pedrycz2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.37, No.3, pp. 3039-3058, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.040412

Abstract Fire rescue challenges and solutions have evolved from straightforward plane rescue to encompass 3D space due to the rise of high-rise city buildings. Hence, this study facilitates a system with quick and simplified on-site launching and generates real-time location data, enabling fire rescuers to arrive at the intended spot faster and correctly for effective and precise rescue. Auto-positioning with step-by-step instructions is proposed when launching the locating system, while no extra measuring instrument like Total Station (TS) is needed. Real-time location tracking is provided via a 3D space real-time locating system (RTLS) constructed using Ultra-wide Bandwidth technology (UWB), which requires… More >

An IoT-Based Aquaculture Monitoring System Using Firebase

    Wen-Tsai Sung1, Indra Griha Tofik Isa1,2, Sung-Jung Hsiao3,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.76, No.2, pp. 2179-2200, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.041022

Abstract Indonesia is a producer in the fisheries sector, with production reaching 14.8 million tons in 2022. The production potential of the fisheries sector can be optimally optimized through aquaculture management. One of the most important issues in aquaculture management is how to efficiently control the fish pond water conditions. IoT technology can be applied to support a fish pond aquaculture monitoring system, especially for catfish species (Siluriformes), in real-time and remotely. One of the technologies that can provide this convenience is the IoT. The problem of this study is how to integrate IoT devices with Firebase’s cloud data system to… More >

Study on the Influence of the Longitudinal Position of the Fire Source on the Movement Behavior of the Asymmetric Flow Field in Tunnel Fire

    Lu He1,*, Yuhang Zhou1, Guoqing Zhu1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.26, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.08939

Abstract The longitudinal position of the fire source is one of the key parameters affecting the flow field characteristics in a long-distance tunnel. In this paper, a series of numerical simulations were carried out to analyze the influence of the longitudinal position and the heat release rate (HRR) on the induced airflow on both sides of the fire source and the smoke movement behaviors characteristics in the long-distance tunnel. It is found that under the induction of thermal pressure, an asymmetric induced air flow is formed near the fire source, resulting in asymmetric dynamic parameters of ceiling jet. The wind speed… More >

    Jakkid Sanetuntikul1, Borwon Narupai2, Nawadon Petchwattana3,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.9, pp. 3567-3582, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.029308

Abstract Wastes from polypropylene (PP) packages are accumulating every year because it is one of the most widely consumed and short lifecycle products. This paper aims to develop low thermal conductive and fire-retardant materials from post-consumer PP (pPP) packages. Ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and hollow glass microsphere (HGM) were further added to improve the fire retardancy and thermal conductivity of pPP. The influence of APP and HGM on the mechanical and thermal properties, fire retardancy and thermal conductivity of pPP were investigated and compared with that of virgin PP (vPP). HGM was constantly added at 5 wt% while the content of APP… More > Graphic Abstract
