    Xin Xue1,2,3, Haitao Li1,2,3,*, Rodolfo Lorenzo4

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.12, No.4, pp. 869-894, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2024.029602

Abstract This review summarizes the existing knowledge about the mechanical properties of bamboo scrimber (BS) in literature. According to literature reviews, the strength of BS under different load modes is affected by a series of factors, such as the type of original bamboo, growth position, resin content, treatment method and density. Therefore, different production processes can be adopted according to different requirements, and bamboo scrimbers can also be classified accordingly. In addition, this review summarizes the changes in different factors considered by scholars in the research on the mechanical properties of BS, so that readers can More > Graphic Abstract

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.3, pp. 1401-1423, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.023446

Abstract Moso bamboos have attracted excessive attention as a renewable green building material to the concept of sustainable development. In this paper, the 20 bolted Moso bamboo connection specimens with embedded steel plates and grouting materials were designed according to connection configurations with different bolt diameters and end distance of bolt holes, and their bearing capacities and failure modes were analyzed by static tension tests. According to the test results of all connectors, the failure modes of the specimens are divided into four categories, and the effects of bolt diameter and bolt hole end distance on More >

System Reliability Analysis for Truss Structures Based on Automatic Updated  Model

Pengyu Chen, Cunbao Zhao*, He Yao, Junliang Li

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.3, pp. 2057-2071, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.022394

Abstract Multiple failure modes tend to be identified in the reliability analysis of a redundant truss structure. This identification process involves updating the model for identifying the next potential failure members. Herein we intend to update the finite element model automatically in the identification process of failure modes and further perform the system reliability analysis efficiently. This study presents a framework that is implemented through the joint simulation of MATLAB and APDL and consists of three parts: reliability index of a single member, identification of dominant failure modes, and system-level reliability analysis for system reliability analysis… More > Graphic Abstract

Failure Mode and Effects Analysis Based on Z-Numbers and the Graded Mean Integration Representation

    Hanhan Zhang1, Zhihui Xu2, Hong Qian1, Xiaoyan Su1,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.2, pp. 1005-1019, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.021898

Abstract Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) is a widely used safety assessment method in many fields. Z-number was previously applied in FMEA since it can take both possibility and reliability of information into consideration. However, the use of fuzzy weighted mean to integrate Z-valuations may have some drawbacks and is not suitable for some situations. In this paper, an improved method is proposed based on Z-numbers and the graded mean integration representation (GMIR) to deal with the uncertain information in FMEA. First, Z-numbers are constructed based on the evaluations of risk factors O, S, D for each More >

An Approach for Quantifying the Influence of Seepage Dissolution on Seismic Performance of Concrete Dams

    Shaowei Wang1,2, Cong Xu1, Hao Gu3,*, Pinghua Zhu1, Hui Liu1, Bo Xu4

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.131, No.1, pp. 97-117, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.018721

Abstract Many concrete dams seriously suffer from long-term seepage dissolution, and the induced mechanical property deterioration of concrete may significantly affect the structural performance, especially the seismic safety. An approach is presented in this paper to quantify the influence of seepage dissolution on seismic performance of concrete dams. To connect laboratory test with numerical simulation, dissolution tests are conducted for concrete specimens and using the cumulative relative leached calcium as an aging index, a deterioration model is established to predict the mechanical property of leached concrete in the first step. A coupled seepage-calcium dissolution-migration model containing… More >

Experimental and Numerical Study on Mechanical Properties of Z-pins Reinforced Composites Adhesively Bonded Single-Lap Joints

    Yinhuan Yang1,*, Manfeng Gong1, Xiaoqun Xia1, Linzhi Wu2,3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.131, No.1, pp. 365-378, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.018535

Abstract The mechanical properties of Z-pins reinforced composites adhesively bonded single-lap joints (SLJs) under un-directional tension loading are investigated by experimental and numerical methods. Three kinds of joint configurations, including SLJs with three/two rows of Z-pins and “I” array of Z-pins, are investigated by tension test. The failure modes and mechanism of reinforced joints with different Z-pins numbers and alignment are analyzed, and the comparison is performed for the failure strengths of no Z-pins and Z-pins reinforced joints. According to experimental results, failure modes of three kinds of joints are all mixed failure. It turns out More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.2, pp. 487-510, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.017275

Abstract The Moso bamboo, a renewable green building material used in various new green buildings, have received extensive attention with the promotion of the concept of green buildings. To explore the mechanical properties of Moso bamboo connections with external clamp steel plates, the 16 specimens were designed by changing the bolt diameters and the end distances of the bolt holes. Their static tension tests were conducted to investigate bearing capacities and failure modes of different connection configurations. Based on test results, three failure modes of these connections were obtained, including the shear failure of bolt shank, More > Graphic Abstract

Ply-by-Ply Failure Analysis of Laminates Under Dynamic Loading

    Ravi Joshi*, P. Pal

    Sound & Vibration, Vol.55, No.2, pp. 173-190, 2021, DOI:10.32604/sv.2021.011387

Abstract Ply-by-ply failure analysis of symmetric and anti-symmetric laminates under uniform sinusoidal transverse dynamic loading is performed for a specified duration. The study investigates the first ply failure load, followed by the detection of successive ply failures along with their failure modes using various failure theories. Some of the well-established failure theories, mostly used by the researchers, are considered for the failure prediction in laminates. The finite element computational model based on higher order shear deformation displacement field is used for the failure analysis and the complete methodology is computer coded using FORTRAN. The ply-discount stiffness More >
