    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 105-123, 2025, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2024.052506 - 15 November 2024

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the moment redistribution in continuous glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP)-concrete composite slabs caused by concrete cracking and steel bar yielding in the negative bending moment zone. An experimental bending moment redistribution test was conducted on continuous GFRP-concrete composite slabs, and a calculation method based on the conjugate beam method was proposed. The composite slabs were formed by combining GFRP profiles with a concrete layer and supported on steel beams to create two-span continuous composite slab specimens. Two methods, epoxy resin bonding, and stud connection, were used to connect the composite… More >

    Zhengyuan Pei1, Yasushi Koito2,*

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.22, No.5, pp. 1381-1397, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2024.056624 - 30 October 2024

Abstract Extended experiments were conducted on the oscillation characteristics of merged liquid slugs in a horizontally oriented polymer pulsating heat pipe (PHP). The PHP’s serpentine channel comprised 14 parallel channels with a width of 1.3 and a height of 1.1 . The evaporator and condenser sections were 25 and 50 long, respectively, and the adiabatic section in between was 75 mm long. Using a plastic 3D printer and semi-transparent filament made from acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, the serpentine channel was printed directly onto a thin polycarbonate sheet to form the PHP. The PHP was charged with hydrofluoroether-7100.… More >

Experimental Study of Thermal Convection and Heat Transfer in Rotating Horizontal Annulus

Alexei Vjatkin*, Svyatoslav Petukhov, Victor Kozlov

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.11, pp. 2475-2488, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2024.052377 - 28 October 2024

Abstract A genuine technological issue–the thermal convection of liquid in a rotating cavity–is investigated experimentally. The experiments are conducted within a horizontal annulus with isothermal boundaries. The inner boundary of the annulus has a higher temperature, thus exerting a stabilising influence on the system. It is shown that when the layer rotation velocity diminishes, two-dimensional azimuthally periodic convective rolls, rotating together with the cavity, emerge in a threshold manner. The development of convection is accompanied by a significant intensification of heat transfer through the layer. It is shown that the averaged thermal convection excitation in the… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Particle suspension and deposition dynamics are significant factors affecting the level of mixing quality in solid-liquid two-phase stirring processes. In general, the ability to increase the suspension rate and minimize deposition effects is instrumental in improving the uniformity of particle mixing, accelerating the reaction of involved solid-liquid two-phase, and improving the efficiency of production operations. In this work, suspension and deposition indicator based on the Betti number and a uniformity indicator are introduced and obtained by means of image analysis. The influence of the blade type, rotation speed, blade diameter and blade bottom height on… More > Graphic Abstract

Mechanical Behavior of Panels Reinforced with Orthogonal Plant Fabrics: Experimental and Numerical Assessment

    Martha L. Sánchez1,*, G. Capote2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.12, No.10, pp. 1791-1810, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2024.055122 - 23 October 2024

Abstract The construction sector is one of the main sources of pollution, due to high energy consumption and the toxic substances generated during the processing and use of traditional materials. The production of cement, steel, and other conventional materials impacts both ecosystems and human health, increasing the demand for ecological and biodegradable alternatives. In this paper, we analyze the properties of panels made from a combination of plant fibers and castor oil resin, analyzing the viability of their use as construction material. For the research, orthogonal fabrics made with waste plant fibers supplied by a company… More >

Dynamic Friction Loading Experimental Techniques Based on Split Hopkinson Bar

    Wenxuan Du1, Zhongwei Mou2, Xuanfu He1, Jianping Yin1, Yinggang Miao1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.29, No.3, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011421

Abstract High-speed friction and wear are usually occurring in the service life of advanced equipment, and their behavior even influences service safety. However, there is still technique gap in accurately obtaining the parameters during dynamic friction induced by high-speed equipment. This gap is primarily stemmed from the available dynamic friction loading techniques with poor controllability. In this work, a novel dynamic friction apparatus is designed based on split Hopkinson bar technique. The loading principle is from stress wave generated by striker bar hitting the incident bar, which forces the sandwiched friction pair to slide with a… More >

The Effect of Fatigue Loading Frequency on the Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior of a Nickel-Based Superalloy: Experimental Investigation and Modelling

    Yi Shi1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.29, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.012366

Abstract The Nickel-based superalloy is wieldy applied in hot components of aero turbine engine due to its superior mechanical property at elevated temperature. However, the working condition of engine hot components are severe and thus the effect of high temperature, oxidation and time-dependent loading on fatigue crack growth behavior should be considered in structure analysis. In this study, first the effect of environment was experimentally investigated. Stand compact tension (CT) specimens under different temperatures and loading frequencies were tests to evaluate the role of temperature and time-dependent effect on fatigue crack growth. Results show that if… More >

    Zhenyu Zhu1, Ping Zhou1, Xingbang Wan1, Zhuo Chen1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.29, No.2, pp. 1-4, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011777

    Abstract 1 General introduction
The flash smelting is one of the dominant technologies for copper matte production. To meet the increasing demand, the production capability of flash smelting furnace has been increased several times. However, under current conditions, the segregation of concentrate particles becomes an escalating issue, impacting production efficiency and safety [1]. The DEM modelling is a powerful tool for investigating particle behaviors such as contact and collision, but the lack of accurate microscopic properties of copper concentrate particles makes it challenging to conduct reliable DEM simulations [2]. To address this gap, this study employs both… More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.29, No.4, pp. 1-2, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011110

Abstract With the improvement of aircraft design requirements, the development of airborne equipment towards lightweight, miniaturization and weight reduction has brought great challenges to the structural design of airborne equipment. Usually, airborne equipment needs to be connected to the fuselage through supporting brackets. In the process of airplane flight, due to the influence of vibration and other complex load conditions, the mounting bracket of airborne equipment is prone to damage caused by the unreasonable structural design of airborne equipment. Some sensitive airborne electronic equipment has special requirements for the dynamic characteristics of the bracket. Therefore, the… More >
