Research on Clinical Effectiveness of Aspirin for Treating Breast Cancer and Cell Protein Biomarkers on Aspirin Treatment in Drug-Resistant Estrogen Receptor-Positive Breast Cancer Cells

    Junwei Cui1, Minghua Li2, Ruifang Pang2,*, Yinhua Liu1,*

    Oncologie, Vol.24, No.4, pp. 743-768, 2022, DOI:10.32604/oncologie.2022.025419 - 31 December 2022

Abstract Background: Aspirin (ASA) has been reported to have an antitumor effect but the role of ASA in the prevention and treatment of breast cancer (BC) is still controversial. This study aimed to identify clinical effectiveness of ASA in the treatment of BC and explore the antitumor target proteins of ASA that may be involved in overcoming tamoxifen resistance in estrogen receptor (ER)-positive BC cells. Materials and Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of ASA in the treatment of BC were queried from the databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, WanFang, and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure. G-Protein-Coupled Estrogen Receptor Enhances the Stemness of Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Cells and Promotes Malignant Characteristics

    Dongliang Zhu1,*, Jun Yang2, Jiaxin Xu3

    Oncologie, Vol.24, No.3, pp. 471-482, 2022, DOI:10.32604/oncologie.2022.024062 - 19 September 2022

Abstract G-protein coupled estrogen receptor (GPER) is a transmembrane receptor that mediates non-genomic effects of estrogen. This study aimed to investigate the role of GPER in the stemness formation and malignancies in triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells. Spheroids of MDA-MB-468 cells were induced by mammosphere culture, and the proportion of the CD44+ /CD24−/low stem cell subpopulation was detected. Malignant characteristics, expression of GPER and stemness-related markers, and tumorigenesis in a xenograft assay were compared between the mammospheres and adherent cultured cells. The impacts of 17β-estradiol (E2) and the GPER-specific antagonist G15 were studied in in vitro assays.… More >

Anticancer efficacy of 3-(4-isopropyl) benzylidene-8-ethoxy, 6-methyl, chroman-4-one (SBL-060), a novel, dual, estrogen receptor-Akt kinase inhibitor in acute myeloid leukemia cells

    Oncology Research, Vol.29, No.3, pp. 149-157, 2021, DOI:10.32604/or.2022.03539 - 01 August 2022

Abstract Estrogen receptor (ER) α is expressed in a subset of patient-derived acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells, whereas Akt is predominantly expressed in most types of AML. Targeting AML with dual inhibitors is a novel approach to combat the disease. Herein, we examined a novel small molecule, 3-(4-isopropyl) benzylidene-8-ethoxy,6- methyl, chroman-4-one (SBL-060), capable of targeting AML cells by inhibiting ERα and Akt kinase. The chemical properties of SBL-060 were identified by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1 H-NMR), 13C-NMR, and mass spectroscopy. In silico docking was performed using an automated protocol with AutoDock-VINA. THP-1 and HL-60 cell lines were… More >

G-Protein-Coupled Estrogen Receptor Antagonist G15 Decreases Estrogen-Induced Development of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Changyu Liu*, Yongde Liao*, Sheng Fan*, Xiangning Fu*, Jing Xiong, Sheng Zhou, Man Zou, Jianmiao Wang§

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.3, pp. 283-292, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504017X15035795904677

Abstract G-protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER) was found to promote non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by estrogen, indicating the potential necessity of inhibiting GPER by a selective antagonist. This study was performed to elucidate the function of GPER-selective inhibitor G15 in NSCLC development. Cytoplasmic GPER (cGPER) and nuclear GPER (nGPER) were detected by immunohistochemical analysis in NSCLC samples. The relation of GPER and estrogen receptor (ER ) expression and correlation between GPER, ER , and clinical factors were analyzed. The effects of activating GPER and function of G15 were analyzed in the proliferation of A549 and H1793… More >

Estrogen receptors in mast cells from arterial walls

    S. NICOVANI , M.I. RUDOLPH

    BIOCELL, Vol.26, No.1, pp. 15-24, 2002, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2002.26.015

Abstract We examined the presence of estrogen receptors (ER) in vascular mast cells and a possible genomic effect of estrogens on the expression of mast cell (MC) mediators such as chymase, TNFα, NOS and IL-10, which are known to affect the course of atherosclerosis. Immunocytochemical detection of mast cell tryptase and the co-localization of ERs in MCs from abdominal aortic vessels from 10 fertile woman, 10 postmenopausal women and 15 men was performed. The genomic expression of IL-10, TNFα, and NOS was analyzed by RT-PCR and chymase activity by spectrophotometry after 24 h incubation with 17-β… More >
