Isolation of Microcrystalline Cellulose from Wood and Fabrication of Polylactic Acid (PLA) Based Green Biocomposites

    Selwin Maria Sekar1, Rajini Nagarajan1,*, Ponsuriyaprakash Selvakumar2, Ismail Sikiru Oluwarotimi3, Kumar Krishnan4, Faruq Mohammad5, Mohammed Rafi Shaik5, Nadir Ayrilmis6,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.12, No.8, pp. 1455-1474, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2024.052952 - 06 September 2024

Abstract An innovative microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) natural fibre powder-reinforced PLA biocomposite was investigated using the hand lay-up technique. The polymer matrix composite (PMC) samples were prepared by varying the weight percentages (wt.%) of both PLA matrix and MCC reinforcement: pure PLA/100:0, 90:10, 80:20, 70:30, 60:40 and 50:50 wt.%, respectively. From the results obtained, MCC powder, with its impressive aspect ratio, proved to be an ideal reinforcement for the PLA, exhibiting exceptional mechanical properties. It was evident that the 80:20 wt.% biocomposite sample exhibited the maximum improvement in the tensile, flexural, notched impact, compressive strength and hardness… More >

Investigating the Effects of the Driving Cycle and Penetration of Electric Vehicles on Technical and Environmental Characteristics of the Hybrid Energy System Considering Uncertainties

    Jiusong Chen1,*, Dejun Miao1, Yizong Dai1, Mojtaba Ghadamyari2,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.5, pp. 1985-2003, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.021142 - 21 July 2022

Abstract Electric vehicles (EVs) have received special consideration from modern society over the past several years. Although EVs are a fine example of environmentally friendly technology and have many advantages, they relatively increase the electricity demand upon a power grid as well. Therefore, their negative impact on busvoltage and line losses should be analyzed. In this study, the effect of EV loads and their penetration on bus voltage and line losses of an IEEE-33 bussystem has been examined via two scenarios. It is important to mention that the effect of EVs on the rate of air More >

The Non-Linear Effect of China’s Energy Consumption on Eco-Environment Pollution

    Chunhua Jin, Hanqing Hu*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.3, pp. 655-665, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014281 - 22 March 2021

Abstract With the increase of total energy consumption, eco-environmental quality drops sharply, which has attracted concerns from all circles. It has become the top priority of construction of socialist ecological civilization to clarify the influences of energy consumption on the level of eco-environmental pollution. Ecological environmental pollution control cannot be one size fits all. It can avoid resource depletion and environmental deterioration via adjusting measures to local conditions to coordinate ecological environmental pollution and energy consumption problems. In this essay, entropy method is adopted to measure the composite indexes of eco-environmental pollution of 30 provinces and… More >

Trace Elements in the Soil-Plant Systems of Copper Mine Areas-A Case Study From Murgul Copper Mine From the Black Sea Region of Turkey

    Munir Ozturk1,*, Volkan Altay2, Mahir Kucuk3, Ibrahim Ertuğrul Yalçın4

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.88, No.3, pp. 223-238, 2019, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2019.07446

Abstract This study presents a case study on the heavy metal analysis of soil and plant samples around the Murgul copper mine, one of the first and most important mining areas in Turkey. An attempt has been made to investigate the status of trace elements like Al3+, Fe2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Pb2+, Ni2+, Co2+ and Cd2+ in soils and plants. The sampling localities were taken from 500 m, 600 m, and 1000 m altitudes around the factory and at 1400 m in the forest zone. The aboveground parts and foliage ash of Silene compacta, Tussilago farfara, Smilax excelsa, Rhododendron ponticum, R. luteum,… More >

Waste Tire Rubberized Concrete Plates for Airport Pavements: Stress and Strain Profiles in Time and Space Domains

    E. Ferretti1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.31, No.2, pp. 87-112, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2012.031.087

Abstract The present study follows a previous study on the stress and strain profiles along the cross-section of waste tire rubberized concrete plates for airport pavements, subjected to quasi-static loads [Ferretti and Bignozzi (2012)]. Further results on the in-situ performance of concrete plain and rubberized taxiways have been collected and presented here. The experimental program has been undertaken at the Guglielmo Marconi airport of Bologna (Italy). It concerns two portions of the taxiway, one built with plain concrete and one with rubberized concrete. Each portion has been fitted with strain gauges embedded in concrete for the More >

Stress and Strain Profiles along the Cross-Section of Waste Tire Rubberized Concrete Plates for Airport Pavements

    E. Ferretti1, M.C. Bignozzi2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.27, No.3, pp. 231-274, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2011.027.231

Abstract In this study, the results of an in-situ experimental program on the performance of concrete taxiways are presented. The experimental program has been undertaken at the Guglielmo Marconi airport of Bologna (Italy). It concerns two portions of the taxiway, one built with plain concrete and one with rubberized concrete. Each portion has been instrumented with strain gauges embedded in concrete for the acquisition of vertical strains. The results of the experimentation are discussed in view of possible applications to the computational analysis of the stress field induced into pavements by aircrafts. More >
