Mechanics of Freezing-Empowered Self-Catapulting of Water Droplets

    Haimin Yao1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.31, No.3, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.012649

Abstract Despite the remarkable progress of anti-icing and deicing technologies in the past decades, it remains a grand challenge to dislodge freezing water from a solid surface without consuming external energy. Herein, we propose a strategy to dislodge freezing water from solid surfaces just by leveraging its volume expansion resulting from the phase change from water to ice. The implementation of this energy-saving strategy relies on a simple micropillar-based gadget on the surface, termed freezing-empowered droplet catapult (FEDC), whereby the work done by the volume expansion of a freezing droplet accreted on it can be harvested… More >

    Hongliang Zhang1,2, Yi Chen1, Yuteng Zhang1, Gongjie Xu3,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.140, No.2, pp. 1459-1483, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.049756 - 20 May 2024

Abstract The distributed flexible job shop scheduling problem (DFJSP) has attracted great attention with the growth of the global manufacturing industry. General DFJSP research only considers machine constraints and ignores worker constraints. As one critical factor of production, effective utilization of worker resources can increase productivity. Meanwhile, energy consumption is a growing concern due to the increasingly serious environmental issues. Therefore, the distributed flexible job shop scheduling problem with dual resource constraints (DFJSP-DRC) for minimizing makespan and total energy consumption is studied in this paper. To solve the problem, we present a multi-objective mathematical model for… More >

    Guoqing Yu1,*, Nan Fang1, Dingke Hu2, Wei Zhao3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.7, pp. 1563-1582, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.026951 - 04 May 2023

Abstract In the hot summer & cold winter zone in China, intermittent heating space for rooms is widely used. However, in comparison with continuous space heating, the energy-saving performance of intermittent space heating has not been sufficiently investigated. This paper studied the factors influencing the energy performance of intermittent heating for the representative office in hot summer & cold winter zone. Based on the heat balance method, a dynamic thermal model of the intermittent heating room was built and tested by experiments. And then, it analyzed the total space heating load, the amount of energy saving… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.43, No.3, pp. 1285-1296, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.029230 - 09 May 2022

Abstract Berth and loading and unloading machinery are not only the main factors that affecting the terminal operation, but also the main starting point of energy saving and emission reduction. In this paper, a genetic Algorithm Framework is designed for the berth allocation with low carbon and high efficiency at bulk terminal. In solving the problem, the scheduler’s experience is transformed into a regular way to obtain the initial solution. The individual is represented as a chromosome, and the sub-chromosomes are encoded as integers, the roulette wheel method is used for selection, the two-point crossing method… More >

    Shuqiao Dan*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.3, pp. 1047-1057, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.015594 - 31 March 2022

Abstract There are several problems existing in the direct starting of asynchronous motor such as large starting current, reactive power absorption from network side and weak interference-resistance, etc. Aiming at this, a comprehensive energy-saving optimization model of asynchronous motor for voltage regulation based on static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) is put forward. By analyzing the working principle and operation performance of static synchronous compensator regulating voltage, a new energy-efficient optimization method for asynchronous motor is proposed based on the voltage regulator model to achieve soft start, continuous dynamic reactive power compensation and the terminal voltage stability control. Xiaona Hu1,2, Baiqing Zhou1,*, Jinyue Xia3, Yao Chen4, Gang Hu5

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.33, No.3, pp. 1801-1813, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.027034 - 24 March 2022

Abstract With the global warming to the survival and development of mankind, more and more attention is paid to low-carbon, green and energy-saving production. As one of the main modes of international transportation, the wharf has been facing a serious problem of its high carbon-emission. In order to balance the relationship between port energy consumption and efficiency, it is necessary to study the berth allocation, loading and unloading of bulk terminal from the perspective of energy saving with the proposal of energy saving and emission reduction in China. Both energy saving and efficiency can be achieved… More >

Modular Design Using Sustainable Luminescent Materials in Energy-Saving Reflective Cat’s Eyes for Public Road Safety Planning

    Lung-Yin Lin1, Yu-Shing Chang2,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.5, pp. 1415-1437, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.018408 - 22 December 2021

Abstract Recently, there has been a global movement toward environmental protection and energy conservation through the design and development of new products in accordance with sustainable utilisation. In this study, rare earth luminescent materials were used owing to their active light emission and reusability. Additionally, solar light-emitting diode lights and car-light reflection were utilised to increase the recognition and reliability of reflective cat eyes. Along with carbon reduction, this can save energy and enhance road safety. This study considered the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving and a literature review to analyse the issues in existing products.… More >

    Haijun Geng1, Qidong Zhang1, Jiangyuan Yao2,*, Wei Wang1, Zikun Jin1, Han Zhang3, Yangyang Zhang4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.2, pp. 2029-2039, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.016368 - 13 April 2021

Abstract A reduction in network energy consumption and the establishment of green networks have become key scientific problems in academic and industrial research. Existing energy efficiency schemes are based on a known traffic matrix, and acquiring a real-time traffic matrix in current complex networks is difficult. Therefore, this research investigates how to reduce network energy consumption without a real-time traffic matrix. In particular, this paper proposes an intra-domain energy-efficient routing scheme based on multipath routing. It analyzes the relationship between routing availability and energy-efficient routing and integrates the two mechanisms to satisfy the requirements of availability… More >
