    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.10, pp. 2825-2849, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.052371 - 11 September 2024

Abstract In recent times, the impact of typhoon disasters on integrated energy active distribution networks (IEADNs) has received increasing attention, particularly, in terms of effective cascading fault path prediction and enhanced fault recovery performance. In this study, we propose a modified ORNL-PSerc-Alaska (OPA) model based on optimal power flow (OPF) calculation to forecast IEADN cascading fault paths. We first established the topology and operational model of the IEADNs, and the typical fault scenario was chosen according to the component fault probability and information entropy. The modified OPA model consisted of two layers: An upper-layer model to More >

Thermomechanical Behavior of Brake Drums Under Extreme Braking Conditions

    T. Khatir1,2, M. Bouchetara2, K. Derrar2, M. Djafri3, S. Khatir4, M. Abdel Wahab5,6,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.2, pp. 2259-2273, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.020879 - 29 March 2022

Abstract Braking efficiency is characterized by reduced braking time and distance, and therefore passenger safety depends on the design of the braking system. During the braking of a vehicle, the braking system must dissipate the kinetic energy by transforming it into heat energy. A too high temperature can lead to an almost total loss of braking efficiency. An excessive rise in brake temperature can also cause surface cracks extending to the outside edge of the drum friction surface. Heat transfer and temperature gradient, not to forget the vehicle's travel environment (high speed, heavy load, and steeply… More >

Impacts of Rotation on Unsteady Fluid Flow and Energy Distribution through a Bending Duct with Rectangular Cross Section

    Mohammad Zohurul Islam1, Rabindra Nath Mondal2, Suvash C. Saha1,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.2, pp. 453-472, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.018160 - 24 January 2022

    Abstract

A depth understanding of fluid flow past a curved duct having rectangular cross-section with different aspect ratios (l) are essential for various engineering applications such as in chemical, mechanical, bio-mechanical and bio-medical engineering. So highly ambitious researchers have given significant attention to study new characteristics of fluid flow in a curved duct. The flow characterization in the rectangular duct has been studied over a wide range of numerical and selective experimental studies. However, proper knowledge with the effects of Coriolis force for different aspect ratios is important for better understanding of the transitional behaviour and

Pressure-Induced Instability Characteristics of a Transient Flow and Energy Distribution through a Loosely Bent Square Duct

Sreedham Chandra Adhikari1, Ratan Kumar Chanda1, Sidhartha Bhowmick1, Rabindra Nath Mondal1, Suvash Chandra Saha2,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.1, pp. 429-451, 2022, DOI:10.32604/EE.2022.018145 - 22 November 2021

Abstract Due to widespread applications of the bent ducts in engineering fields such as in chemical, mechanical, bio-mechanical and bio-medical engineering, scientists have paid considerable attention to invent new characteristics of fluid flow in a bent duct (BD). In the ongoing study, a spectral-based numerical technique is applied to explore flow characteristics and energy distribution through a loosely bent square duct (BSD) of small curvature. Flow is accelerated due to combined action of the non-dimensional parameters; the Grashof number Gr (=1000), the curvature (=0.001), and the Prandtl number Pr (=7.0) over a wide domain of the Dean… More >

Computer Modelling of the Energy Distribution within Wood throughout Microwave Processing

    M. Daian1, A. Taube2, G. Torgovnikov3, G. Daian4, Y. Shramkov5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.8, No.3, pp. 165-172, 2008, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2008.008.165

Abstract Microwave wood modification and treatment technologies become more and more essential within the wood industry due to their technical and economical advantages. Microwave processing of wood involves many complicated physical phenomena and requires a very careful control of variables (such as intensity of microwave power, loading period, maximum temperature, etc.) in order to reduce structural deformations of the processed wood. To optimise and minimise the project design engineers' work, modelling and simulation of the microwave energy-wood interaction represents an indispensable tool.
This research work has been undertaken with the aim to design and optimise microwave… More >
