Energy Cost Minimization Using String Matching Algorithm in Geo-Distributed Data Centers

Muhammad Imran Khan Khalil1, Syed Adeel Ali Shah1, Izaz Ahmad Khan2, Mohammad Hijji3, Muhammad Shiraz4, Qaisar Shaheen5,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.3, pp. 6305-6322, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.038163 - 29 April 2023

Abstract Data centers are being distributed worldwide by cloud service providers (CSPs) to save energy costs through efficient workload allocation strategies. Many CSPs are challenged by the significant rise in user demands due to their extensive energy consumption during workload processing. Numerous research studies have examined distinct operating cost mitigation techniques for geo-distributed data centers (DCs). However, operating cost savings during workload processing, which also considers string-matching techniques in geo-distributed DCs, remains unexplored. In this research, we propose a novel string matching-based geographical load balancing (SMGLB) technique to mitigate the operating cost of the geo-distributed DC.… More >

An IoT-Based Energy Conservation Smart Classroom System

    Talal H. Noor1,*, El-Sayed Atlam2, Abdulqader M. Almars1, Ayman Noor3, Amer S. Malki1

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.3, pp. 3785-3799, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.032250 - 17 August 2022

Abstract With the increase of energy consumption worldwide in several domains such as industry, education, and transportation, several technologies played an influential role in energy conservation such as the Internet of Things (IoT). In this article, we describe the design and implementation of an IoT-based energy conservation smart classroom system that contributes to energy conservation in the education domain. The proposed system not only allows the user to access and control IoT devices (e.g., lights, projectors, and air conditions) in real-time, it also has the capability to aggregate the estimated energy consumption of an IoT device,… More >

Wind Turbine Efficiency Under Altitude Consideration Using an Improved Particle Swarm Framework

    Haykel Marouani1,*, Fahad Awjah Almehmadi1, Rihem Farkh2, Habib Dhahri3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.3, pp. 4981-4994, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.029315 - 28 July 2022

    Abstract

In this work, the concepts of particle swarm optimization-based method, named non-Gaussian improved particle swarm optimization for minimizing the cost of energy (COE) of wind turbines (WTs) on high-altitude sites are introduced. Since the COE depends on site specification constants and initialized parameters of wind turbine, the focus was on the design optimization of rotor radius, hub height and rated power. Based on literature, the COE is converted to the Saudi Arabia context. Thus, the constrained wind turbine optimization problem is developed. Then, non-Gaussian improved particle swarm optimization is provided and compared with the conventional

An Eco-Friendly Approach for Reducing Carbon Emissions in Cloud Data Centers

    Mohammad Aldossary1,*, Hatem A. Alharbi2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.2, pp. 3175-3193, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.026041 - 29 March 2022

Abstract Based on the Saudi Green initiative, which aims to improve the Kingdom's environmental status and reduce the carbon emission of more than 278 million tons by 2030 along with a promising plan to achieve net-zero carbon by 2060, NEOM city has been proposed to be the “Saudi hub” for green energy, since NEOM is estimated to generate up to 120 Gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy by 2030. Nevertheless, the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector is considered a key contributor to global energy consumption and carbon emissions. The data centers are estimated to consume about… More >
