Magnetic mitohormesis: A non-invasive therapy for inflammatory disorders?

    ALFREDO FRANCO-OBREGÓN*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.2, pp. 239-244, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.025357 - 18 November 2022

Abstract An organism’s survival depends on its ability to adapt to stress. Mitochondria are the cellular integrators of environmental stressors that ultimately translate their responses at the organismal level, and are thus central to the process whereby organisms adapt to their respective environments. Mitochondria produce molecular energy via oxidative phosphorylation that then allows cells to biosynthetically respond and adapt to changes in their environment. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are by-products of oxidative phosphorylation that can be either beneficial or damaging, depending on the context; ROS are hence both the conveyors of environmental stress as well as More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.42, No.1, pp. 149-163, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.020619 - 02 December 2021

Abstract The brain of humans and other organisms is affected in various ways through the electromagnetic field (EMF) radiations generated by mobile phones and cell phone towers. Morphological variations in the brain are caused by the neurological changes due to the revelation of EMF. Cellular level analysis is used to measure and detect the effect of mobile radiations, but its utilization seems very expensive, and it is a tedious process, where its analysis requires the preparation of cell suspension. In this regard, this research article proposes optimal broadcasting learning to detect changes in brain morphology due… More >

    S. Fashu1 *, M.Tozvireva1, L.Mudzingwa1, R.Khan2, A. Mukuya1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.12, No.4, pp. 173-192, 2016, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2016.012.173

Abstract This paper outlines the findings in the comparison of the influence of mechanical and electromagnetic stirring on ingot long term purity and uniformity during Ohno Continuous Casting. The magnitude of the average optimum velocity flow field and stirring parameters required to effectively purify aluminum ingots using mechanical stirring of the melt was determined and analyzed. Basing on the determined optimum mechanical flow field, electromagnetic parameters producing almost the same flow field near the interface were obtained through careful adjustments of parameters. Optimum parameters of the mechanical and electromagnetic stirring were obtained by numerically solving the… More >

Effect of man-made electromagnetic fields on common Brassicaceae Lepidium sativum (cress d’Alinois) seed germination: a preliminary replication study

    Cammaerts MC1, O Johansson2

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.84, No.1, pp. 132-137, 2015, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2015.84.132

Abstract Under high levels of radiation (70-100 µW/m2 =175 mV/m), seeds of Brassicaceae Lepidium sativum (cress d’Alinois) never germinated. In fact, the first step of seeds’ germination ‒ e.g. imbibitions of germinal cells ‒ could not occur under radiation, while inside the humid compost such imbibitions occurred and roots slightly developed. When removed from the electromagnetic field, seeds germinated normally. The radiation was, thus, most likely the cause of the non-occurrence of the seeds’ imbibitions and germination. More >

Numerical Modelling of Electromagnetic Wave Propagation by Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin Formulations

    Delfim Soares Jr. 1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.50, No.2, pp. 97-114, 2009, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2009.050.097

Abstract In this work, meshless methods based on the local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) approach are presented to analyse electromagnetic wave propagation problems. Formulations adopting the Heaviside step function and the Gaussian weight function as the test functions in the local weak form are considered. The moving least square (MLS) method is used to approximate the physical quantities in the local integral equations. After spatial discretization is carried out, a system of ordinary differential equations of second order is obtained. This system is solved in the time-domain by the Houbolt's method, allowing the computation of the so-called primary More >

    A. Takei1, S. Yoshimura1, H. Kanayama2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.40, No.1, pp. 63-82, 2009, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2009.040.063

Abstract This paper describes a large-scale finite element analysis (FEA) for a high-frequency electromagnetic field of Maxwell equations including the displacement current. A stationary Helmholtz equation for the high-frequency electromagnetic field analysis is solved by considering an electric field and an electric scalar potential as unknown functions. To speed up the analysis, the hierarchical domain decomposition method (HDDM) is employed as a parallel solver. In this study, the Parent-Only type (Parallel processor mode: P-mode) of the HDDM is employed. In the P-mode, Parent processors perform the entire FEA. In this mode, all CPUs can be used More >

A Study of Boundary Conditions in the Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) Method for Electromagnetic Field Computations

    Meiling Zhao1, Yufeng Nie2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.37, No.2, pp. 97-112, 2008, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2008.037.097

Abstract Meshless local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) method is successfully applied for electromagnetic field computations. The moving least square technique is used to interpolate the trial and test functions. More attention is paid to imposing the essential boundary conditions of electromagnetic equations. A new coupled meshless local Petrov-Galerkin and finite element (MLPG-FE) method is presented to enforce the essential boundary conditions. Unlike the conventional coupled technique, this approach can ensure the smooth blending of the potential variables as well as their derivatives in the transition region between the meshless and finite element domains. Then the boundary singular weight More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.31, No.1, pp. 13-24, 2008, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2008.031.013

Abstract This paper presents large-scale finite element analyses of high frequency electromagnetic fields in commuter trains. The ADVENTURE_Magnetic is one of the main modules of the ADVENTURE system, which is an open source parallel finite element analyses system, and is able to solve eddy current and magnetostatic problems using the hierarchical domain decomposition method (HDDM) with an iterative linear algebraic solver. In this paper, we improve the module so as to solve a high frequency electromagnetic field of 500-1000 M[Hz]. A stationary Helmholtz equation for electromagnetic wave problems is solved taking an electric field as an More >
