    Catalda Corvasce1, Juan Pedro Martínez-Ramón2,*, Francisco Manuel Morales-Rodríguez3, Lidia Pellicer-García4, Inmaculada Méndez2, Cecilia Ruiz-Esteban2

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.26, No.9, pp. 709-718, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2024.053599 - 20 September 2024

Abstract Background: Emotional attention refers to the capacity to recognize and properly respond to one’s and others’ emotional states. On another note, family is a primary source of socialization that influences the development of various social skills. In another line, adolescence is a complex stage that has been associated with emotional difficulties that could be related to competences such as prosociability and inclusion. It is inferred that through the family context and the attention that is processed, a series of competencies are transmitted to the youngsters, but this relationship is still unclear. For this reason, the… More >

Abstract The study aims to recognize how efficiently Educational Data Mining (EDM) integrates into Artificial Intelligence (AI) to develop skills for predicting students’ performance. The study used a survey questionnaire and collected data from 300 undergraduate students of Al Neelain University. The first step’s initial population placements were created using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Then, using adaptive feature space search, Educational Grey Wolf Optimization (EGWO) was employed to choose the optimal attribute combination. The second stage uses the SVM classifier to forecast classification accuracy. Different classifiers were utilized to evaluate the performance of students. According to… More >

    Osama A. Khashan1,*, Sultan Alamri2, Waleed Alomoush3, Mutasem K. Alsmadi4, Samer Atawneh2, Usama Mir5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.2, pp. 3133-3158, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.036217 - 31 March 2023

Abstract In recent times, technology has advanced significantly and is currently being integrated into educational environments to facilitate distance learning and interaction between learners. Integrating the Internet of Things (IoT) into education can facilitate the teaching and learning process and expand the context in which students learn. Nevertheless, learning data is very sensitive and must be protected when transmitted over the network or stored in data centers. Moreover, the identity and the authenticity of interacting students, instructors, and staff need to be verified to mitigate the impact of attacks. However, most of the current security and… More >

Evolutionary Algorithm Based Feature Subset Selection for Students Academic Performance Analysis

    Ierin Babu1,*, R. MathuSoothana2, S. Kumar2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.3, pp. 3621-3636, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.033791 - 15 March 2023

Abstract Educational Data Mining (EDM) is an emergent discipline that concentrates on the design of self-learning and adaptive approaches. Higher education institutions have started to utilize analytical tools to improve students’ grades and retention. Prediction of students’ performance is a difficult process owing to the massive quantity of educational data. Therefore, Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques can be used for educational data mining in a big data environment. At the same time, in EDM, the feature selection process becomes necessary in creation of feature subsets. Since the feature selection performance affects the predictive performance of any model,… More >

Threefold Optimized Forecasting of Electricity Consumption in Higher Education Institutions

Majida Kazmi1,*, Hashim Raza Khan1,2, Lubaba2, Mohammad Hashir Bin Khalid2, Saad Ahmed Qazi1,2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.2, pp. 2351-2370, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.026265 - 16 June 2022

Abstract Energy management benefits both consumers and utility companies alike. Utility companies remain interested in identifying and reducing energy waste and theft, whereas consumers’ interest remain in lowering their energy expenses. A large supply-demand gap of over 6 GW exists in Pakistan as reported in 2018. Reducing this gap from the supply side is an expensive and complex task. However, efficient energy management and distribution on demand side has potential to reduce this gap economically. Electricity load forecasting models are increasingly used by energy managers in taking real-time tactical decisions to ensure efficient use of resources.… More >

    Mehdi Zandiyehvakili1, Babak Aminnejad2,*, Alireza Lork3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.32, No.1, pp. 499-512, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.021461 - 26 October 2021

Abstract This article presents a methodology to optimize the maintenance planning model and minimize the total maintenance costs of a typical school building. It makes an effort to provide a maintenance schedule, focusing on maintenance costs. In the allocation of operations to the school equipment, the parameter of its age was also taken into account. A mathematical optimization model to minimize the school maintenance cost in a three-year period was provided in the GAMS software with CPLEX solver. Finally, the optimum architecture of the Perceptron multi-layer neural network was used to predict the schedule of equipment More >

Educational Videos Subtitles’ Summarization Using Latent Dirichlet Allocation and Length Enhancement

    Sarah S. Alrumiah*, Amal A. Al-Shargabi

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.3, pp. 6205-6221, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.021780 - 11 October 2021

Abstract Nowadays, people use online resources such as educational videos and courses. However, such videos and courses are mostly long and thus, summarizing them will be valuable. The video contents (visual, audio, and subtitles) could be analyzed to generate textual summaries, i.e., notes. Videos’ subtitles contain significant information. Therefore, summarizing subtitles is effective to concentrate on the necessary details. Most of the existing studies used Term Frequency–Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF) and Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) models to create lectures’ summaries. This study takes another approach and applies Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), which proved its effectiveness in document… More >

    Yousef Asiri*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.41, No.1, pp. 35-50, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.020100 - 08 October 2021

Abstract Most of the international accreditation bodies in engineering education (e.g., ABET) and outcome-based educational systems have based their assessments on learning outcomes and program educational objectives. However, mapping program educational objectives (PEOs) to student outcomes (SOs) is a challenging and time-consuming task, especially for a new program which is applying for ABET-EAC (American Board for Engineering and Technology the American Board for Engineering and Technology—Engineering Accreditation Commission) accreditation. In addition, ABET needs to automatically ensure that the mapping (classification) is reasonable and correct. The classification also plays a vital role in the assessment of students’… More >
