Itinerary-Dependent Degradation Analysis of a Lithium-Ion Battery Cell for E-Bike Applications in Rwanda

Aimable Ngendahayo1,*, Adrià Junyent-Ferré2, Joan Marc Rodriguez Bernuz3, Etienne Ntagwirumugara1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.11, pp. 3121-3131, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.053100 - 21 October 2024

Abstract There are obstacles to the widespread use of small electric vehicles (EVs) in Rwanda, including concerns regarding the battery range and lifespan. Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) play an important role in EVs. However, their performance declines over time because of several factors. To optimize battery management systems and extend the range of EVs in Rwanda, it is essential to understand the influence of the driving profiles on lithium-ion battery degradation. This study analyzed the degradation patterns of a lithium-ion battery cell that propels an E-bike using various real-world E-bike driving cycles that represent Rwandan driving conditions… More >

Modeling and Control of Parallel Hybrid Electric Vehicle Using Sea-Lion Optimization

    J. Leon Bosco Raj1,*, M. Marsaline Beno2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.2, pp. 1441-1454, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.026211 - 19 July 2022

Abstract This paper develops a parallel hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) proportional integral controller with driving cycle. To improve fuel efficiency and reduce hazardous emissions in hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) combine an electric motor (EM), a battery and an internal combustion engine (ICE). The electric motor assists the engine when accelerating, driving longer highways or climbing hills. This enables the use of a smaller, more efficient engine. It also makes use of the concept of regenerative braking to maximize energy efficiency. In a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), energy dissipated while braking is utilized to charge the battery. More >

Investigating the Effects of the Driving Cycle and Penetration of Electric Vehicles on Technical and Environmental Characteristics of the Hybrid Energy System Considering Uncertainties

    Jiusong Chen1,*, Dejun Miao1, Yizong Dai1, Mojtaba Ghadamyari2,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.5, pp. 1985-2003, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.021142 - 21 July 2022

Abstract Electric vehicles (EVs) have received special consideration from modern society over the past several years. Although EVs are a fine example of environmentally friendly technology and have many advantages, they relatively increase the electricity demand upon a power grid as well. Therefore, their negative impact on busvoltage and line losses should be analyzed. In this study, the effect of EV loads and their penetration on bus voltage and line losses of an IEEE-33 bussystem has been examined via two scenarios. It is important to mention that the effect of EVs on the rate of air More >
