Abstract The present study deals with double-diffusive convection within a two-dimensional inclined cavity filled with an air-CO2 binary gas mixture. The left and the right vertical walls are differentially heated and subjected to different locations of (CO2) contaminants to allow for the variation of the buoyancy strength (N). However, the horizontal walls are assumed adiabatic. The simulations are conducted using the finite volume method to solve the conservation equations of continuity, momentum, energy, and species transport. Good agreement with other numerical results in the literature is obtained. The effect of multiple parameters, namely, buoyancy ratio (N), thermal More >

Abstract A computational study has been made for a three dimensional double diffusive convection with molten Pb-Sn by using finite volume method. In this work, two vertical walls have different temperature and different concentration while remaining walls are adiabatic. Buoyancy ratio, which changes between N = -0.1 and -10, is the main governing parameter during work. Other parameters are taken as fixed with Pr = 0.02, Le = 7500 and Ra = 5×103 . It is found that changing of buoyancy parameter becomes more effective on heat transfer than that of mass transfer. More >

Abstract The problem related to coupled double diffusive convection in a square enclosure filled with a gray gas in the presence of volumetric radiation is examined numerically. The horizontal walls are assumed to be insulated and impermeable. Different temperatures and species concentrations are imposed at vertical walls. In particular, we propose a 2-D numerical approach based on a hybrid scheme combining a multiple-relaxation-time lattice Boltzmann model (MRT-LBM) and a standard finite difference method (FDM). The radiative term in the energy equation is treated using the discrete ordinates method (DOM) with a S8 quadrature. The influence of… More >
