Abstract To investigate the influence of snow particle rotational motion on the accumulation of snow in the bogie region of high-speed trains, an Euler‒Lagrange numerical approach is adopted. The study examines the effects of snow particle diameter and train speed on the ensuing dynamics. It is shown that considering snow particle rotational motion causes significant deviation in the particle trajectories with respect to non-rotating particles. Such a deviation increases with larger snow particle diameters and higher train speeds. The snow accumulation on the overall surface of the bogie increases, and the amount of snow on the More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.5, pp. 1143-1157, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.022496 - 30 November 2022

Abstract The cyclone dust collector is an important subsystem of straw crushers used in agriculture. In the present study, a new type of dust collector with involute morphology is proposed to obtain better dust removal efficiency with respect to that of classical tangential and spiral dust collectors. A discrete phase model (DPM) method is used in synergy with a turbulence model, and the SIMPLE algorithm to simulate the flow field inside the dust collector and the related particle dynamics. It is shown that the internal flow field features a primary swirl, a secondary swirl and blockage More > Graphic Abstract

Numerical Investigation of the Deposition Characteristics of Snow on the Bogie of a High-Speed Train

    Lu Cai1, Zhen Lou1, Nan Liu2, Chao An2, Jiye Zhang1, *

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.16, No.1, pp. 41-53, 2020, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2020.07731 - 01 February 2020

Abstract To investigate the deposition distribution of snow particles in the bogie surfaces of a high-speed train, a snow particle deposition model, based on the critical capture velocity and the critical shear velocity, was elaborated. Simulations based on the unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) approach coupled with Discrete Phase Model (DPM) were used to analyze the motion of snow particles. The results show that the cross beam of the bogie frame, the anti-snake damper, the intermediate brake clamps in the rear wheels, the traction rod and the anti-rolling torsion bar are prone to accumulate snow. The accumulation… More >

INVESTIGATION ON THE EFFECT OF INJECTION PRESSURES ON THE SPRAY CHARACTERISTICS FOR DIETHYL ETHER AND DIESEL FUEL AT DIFFERENT CHAMBER TEMPERATURES

Vijayakumar Thulasi, R. Thundil Karuppa Raj*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.10, pp. 1-9, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.10.33

Abstract Diethyl ether is one of the potential alternative fuels for the high speed compression ignition engines that can replace the existing neat diesel fuel. It is well known that the combustion characteristic of a compression ignition engine is highly influenced by the fuel spray structure formed during the injection process. In this paper the spray structure formation for the diethyl ether fuel is studied numerically, using the discrete phase model and it is compared with the neat diesel fuel. The spray is investigated in a constant volume chamber maintained at 30 bar pressure. The fuel… More >
