Abstract The Atlas pistachio tree is a typically Mediterranean species, which represents an important forest heritage in the arid and semi-arid regions of Algeria. It is deeply rooted in the local population’s culture, making it essential to better understand this species for its conservation and valorization. Through our work on 7 provenances of Pistacia atlantica distributed across different bioclimates in Algeria and based on 28 quantitative and qualitative leaf, trichome, and stomatal traits, it was revealed that the Atlas pistachio tree exhibits significant ecotypic variability linked to its habitat and a high adaptability to extreme conditions in… More >

Characteristics of Desertification Change in Lake Basin Area in Gangcha County

    Wenzheng Yu1, Mingxuan Zhu1, Li Shao1, Yanbo Shen2,3,*, Haitao Liu1, Tianliang Chen1, Hanxiaoya Zhang4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.2, pp. 3771-3793, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.027094 - 16 June 2022

Abstract Qinghai Lake Basin area in Gangcha county is selected as the study area in terms of desertification change features in this paper. Based on the remote sensing (RS) and global positioning system (GPS) technologies, the desertification information range from 1989 to 2014 in the study area is extracted. Using the method of the decision tree, the desertification in the research area is been divided into four grades including mild desertification, moderate desertification, severe desertification and serious desertification. The change characteristics of desertification in the study area were analyzed in detail, which showed that the desertification More >

Classification of Desertification on the North Bank of Qinghai Lake

    Wenzheng Yu1, Xin Yao1, Li Shao2, Jing Liu1, Yanbo Shen3,4,*, Hanxiaoya Zhang5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.1, pp. 695-711, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.023191 - 24 February 2022

Abstract In this paper, RS, GIS and GPS technologies are used to interpret the remote sensing images of the north shore of Qinghai Lake from 1987 to 2014 according to the inversion results of vegetation coverage (FVC), albedo, land surface temperature (LST), soil moisture (WET) and other major parameters after image preprocessing, such as radiometric correction, geometric correction and atmospheric correction. On this basis, the decision tree classification method based on landsat8 remote sensing image is used to classify the desertification land in this area, and the development and change of desertification in this period are More >

Abstract Land desertification is a widely concerned ecological environment problem. Studying the evolution trend of desertification types is of great significance to prevent and control land desertification. In this study, we applied the decision tree classification method, to study the land area and temporal and spatial change law of different types of desertification in the North Bank of Qinghai Lake area from 1987 to 2014, based on the current land use situation and TM remote sensing image data of Haiyan County, Qinghai Province, The results show that the area of mild desertification land and moderate desertification… More >

Desertification Detection in Makkah Region based on Aerial Images Classification

    Yahia Said1,2,*, Mohammad Barr1, Taoufik Saidani2,3, Mohamed Atri2,4

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.40, No.2, pp. 607-618, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.018479 - 09 September 2021

Abstract Desertification has become a global threat and caused a crisis, especially in Middle Eastern countries, such as Saudi Arabia. Makkah is one of the most important cities in Saudi Arabia that needs to be protected from desertification. The vegetation area in Makkah has been damaged because of desertification through wind, floods, overgrazing, and global climate change. The damage caused by desertification can be recovered provided urgent action is taken to prevent further degradation of the vegetation area. In this paper, we propose an automatic desertification detection system based on Deep Learning techniques. Aerial images are More >

Variation in specific composition and cover in grassland exposed to various grazing pressures in the Monte Rionegrino

    Peter G1,2, FA Funk3, A Loydi4, AI Casalini5, CV Leder4

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.81, pp. 233-237, 2012, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2012.81.233

Abstract In the western Monte Phytogeographical Province of Rio Negro, vegetation is a shrubby-grassland steppe, where plants are interspersed within a bare soil matrix forming “phytogenic islands”. The objective of this study was to evaluate the specific composition and cover of the study ecological system under different grazing pressures. We selected areas with high, moderate and low grazing intensity at three sites. In each area we established five linear transects, where basal cover and all intercepted species were registered. Sites were arranged through a Principal Component Analysis using the Infostat software. We analyzed similarity between sites, More >
