    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.1, pp. 361-382, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.031229 - 30 December 2023

Abstract Aim: This study aims to establish an artificial intelligence model, ThyroidNet, to diagnose thyroid nodules using deep learning techniques accurately. Methods: A novel method, ThyroidNet, is introduced and evaluated based on deep learning for the localization and classification of thyroid nodules. First, we propose the multitask TransUnet, which combines the TransUnet encoder and decoder with multitask learning. Second, we propose the DualLoss function, tailored to the thyroid nodule localization and classification tasks. It balances the learning of the localization and classification tasks to help improve the model’s generalization ability. Third, we introduce strategies for augmenting… More >

Multimodal Fused Deep Learning Networks for Domain Specific Image Similarity Search

Umer Waqas, Jesse Wiebe Visser, Hana Choe, Donghun Lee*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.1, pp. 243-258, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.035716 - 06 February 2023

Abstract The exponential increase in data over the past few years, particularly in images, has led to more complex content since visual representation became the new norm. E-commerce and similar platforms maintain large image catalogues of their products. In image databases, searching and retrieving similar images is still a challenge, even though several image retrieval techniques have been proposed over the decade. Most of these techniques work well when querying general image databases. However, they often fail in domain-specific image databases, especially for datasets with low intraclass variance. This paper proposes a domain-specific image similarity search… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.1, pp. 83-99, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.032739 - 22 September 2022

Abstract A system for classifying four basic table tennis strokes using wearable devices and deep learning networks is proposed in this study. The wearable device consisted of a six-axis sensor, Raspberry Pi 3, and a power bank. Multiple kernel sizes were used in convolutional neural network (CNN) to evaluate their performance for extracting features. Moreover, a multiscale CNN with two kernel sizes was used to perform feature fusion at different scales in a concatenated manner. The CNN achieved recognition of the four table tennis strokes. Experimental data were obtained from 20 research participants who wore sensors More >

    Yunlei Zhang1, Ruifeng Cao1, Danhuang Dong2, Sha Peng3,*, Ruoyun Du3, Xiaomin Xu3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.5, pp. 1829-1841, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.020118 - 21 July 2022

Abstract In the electricity market, fluctuations in real-time prices are unstable, and changes in short-term load are determined by many factors. By studying the timing of charging and discharging, as well as the economic benefits of energy storage in the process of participating in the power market, this paper takes energy storage scheduling as merely one factor affecting short-term power load, which affects short-term load time series along with time-of-use price, holidays, and temperature. A deep learning network is used to predict the short-term load, a convolutional neural network (CNN) is used to extract the features, More >

Sport-Related Activity Recognition from Wearable Sensors Using Bidirectional GRU Network

    Sakorn Mekruksavanich1, Anuchit Jitpattanakul2,*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.3, pp. 1907-1925, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.027233 - 25 May 2022

Abstract Numerous learning-based techniques for effective human activity recognition (HAR) have recently been developed. Wearable inertial sensors are critical for HAR studies to characterize sport-related activities. Smart wearables are now ubiquitous and can benefit people of all ages. HAR investigations typically involve sensor-based evaluation. Sport-related activities are unpredictable and have historically been classified as complex, with conventional machine learning (ML) algorithms applied to resolve HAR issues. The efficiency of machine learning techniques in categorizing data is limited by the human-crafted feature extraction procedure. A deep learning model named MBiGRU (multimodal bidirectional gated recurrent unit) neural network More >

Abstract Early detection of the Covid-19 disease is essential due to its higher rate of infection affecting tens of millions of people, and its high number of deaths also by 7%. For that purpose, a proposed model of several stages was developed. The first stage is optimizing the images using dynamic adaptive histogram equalization, performing a semantic segmentation using DeepLabv3Plus, then augmenting the data by flipping it horizontally, rotating it, then flipping it vertically. The second stage builds a custom convolutional neural network model using several pre-trained ImageNet. Finally, the model compares the pre-trained data to More >

Abstract The automatic and accurate classification of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) radiology report is essential for the analysis and interpretation epilepsy and non-epilepsy. Since the majority of MRI radiology reports are unstructured, the manual information extraction is time-consuming and requires specific expertise. In this paper, a comprehensive method is proposed to classify epilepsy and non-epilepsy real brain MRI radiology text reports automatically. This method combines the Natural Language Processing technique and statistical Machine Learning methods. 122 real MRI radiology text reports (97 epilepsy, 25 non-epilepsy) are studied by our proposed method which consists of the following… More >

3D Semantic Deep Learning Networks for Leukemia Detection

    Javaria Amin1, Muhammad Sharif2, Muhammad Almas Anjum3, Ayesha Siddiqa1, Seifedine Kadry4, Yunyoung Nam5,*, Mudassar Raza2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.1, pp. 785-799, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015249 - 04 June 2021

Abstract White blood cells (WBCs) are a vital part of the immune system that protect the body from different types of bacteria and viruses. Abnormal cell growth destroys the body’s immune system, and computerized methods play a vital role in detecting abnormalities at the initial stage. In this research, a deep learning technique is proposed for the detection of leukemia. The proposed methodology consists of three phases. Phase I uses an open neural network exchange (ONNX) and YOLOv2 to localize WBCs. The localized images are passed to Phase II, in which 3D-segmentation is performed using deeplabv3 More >

A Fast Two-Stage Black-Box Deep Learning Network Attacking Method Based on Cross-Correlation

    Deyin Li1, 2, Mingzhi Cheng3, Yu Yang1, 2, *, Min Lei1, 2, Linfeng Shen4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.64, No.1, pp. 623-635, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.09800 - 20 May 2020

Abstract Deep learning networks are widely used in various systems that require classification. However, deep learning networks are vulnerable to adversarial attacks. The study on adversarial attacks plays an important role in defense. Black-box attacks require less knowledge about target models than white-box attacks do, which means black-box attacks are easier to launch and more valuable. However, the state-of-arts black-box attacks still suffer in low success rates and large visual distances between generative adversarial images and original images. This paper proposes a kind of fast black-box attack based on the cross-correlation (FBACC) method. The attack is… More >

Abstract Accurate segmentation of CT images of liver tumors is an important adjunct for the liver diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases. In recent years, due to the great improvement of hard device, many deep learning based methods have been proposed for automatic liver segmentation. Among them, there are the plain neural network headed by FCN and the residual neural network headed by Resnet, both of which have many variations. They have achieved certain achievements in medical image segmentation. In this paper, we firstly select five representative structures, i.e., FCN, U-Net, Segnet, Resnet and Densenet, to More >
