A Novel Approach for Security Enhancement of Data Encryption Standard

    Dawood Shah1,*, Tariq Shah1, Sajjad Shaukat Jamal2, Mohammad Mazyad Hazzazi2, Amer Aljaedi3, Adel R. Alharbi3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.3, pp. 5073-5086, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.020513

Abstract Data Encryption Standard (DES) is a symmetric key cryptosystem that is applied in different cryptosystems of recent times. However, researchers found defects in the main assembling of the DES and declared it insecure against linear and differential cryptanalysis. In this paper, we have studied the faults and made improvements in their internal structure and get the new algorithm for Improved DES. The improvement is being made in the substitution step, which is the only nonlinear component of the algorithm. This alteration provided us with great outcomes and increase the strength of DES. Accordingly, a novel good quality S-box construction scheme… More >

Cryptanalysis of 2D-SCMCI Hyperchaotic Map Based Image Encryption Algorithm

    Mohammed S. Alshehri1, Sultan Almakdi1,*, Mimonah Al Qathrady2, Jawad Ahmad3

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.46, No.2, pp. 2401-2414, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.036152

Abstract Chaos-based cryptosystems are considered a secure mode of communication due to their reliability. Chaotic maps are associated with the other domains to construct robust encryption algorithms. There exist numerous encryption schemes in the literature based on chaotic maps. This work aims to propose an attack on a recently proposed hyper-chaotic map-based cryptosystem. The core notion of the original algorithm was based on permutation and diffusion. A bit-level permutation approach was used to do the permutation row-and column-wise. The diffusion was executed in the forward and backward directions. The statistical strength of the cryptosystem has been demonstrated by extensive testing conducted… More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.1, pp. 929-955, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.031386

Abstract Biometric security is a growing trend, as it supports the authentication of persons using confidential biometric data. Most of the transmitted data in multimedia systems are susceptible to attacks, which affect the security of these systems. Biometric systems provide sufficient protection and privacy for users. The recently-introduced cancellable biometric recognition systems have not been investigated in the presence of different types of attacks. In addition, they have not been studied on different and large biometric datasets. Another point that deserves consideration is the hardware implementation of cancellable biometric recognition systems. This paper presents a suggested hybrid cancellable biometric recognition system… More >

Text Encryption Using Pell Sequence and Elliptic Curves with Provable Security

    Sumaira Azhar1, Naveed Ahmed Azam2,*, Umar Hayat1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.3, pp. 4971-4988, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.023685

Abstract The demand for data security schemes has increased with the significant advancement in the field of computation and communication networks. We propose a novel three-step text encryption scheme that has provable security against computation attacks such as key attack and statistical attack. The proposed scheme is based on the Pell sequence and elliptic curves, where at the first step the plain text is diffused to get a meaningless plain text by applying a cyclic shift on the symbol set. In the second step, we hide the elements of the diffused plain text from the attackers. For this purpose, we use… More >

An Enhanced Privacy Preserving, Secure and Efficient Authentication Protocol for VANET

    Safiullah Khan1, Ali Raza2,3, Seong Oun Hwang4,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.2, pp. 3703-3719, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.023476

Abstract Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) have attracted growing interest in both academia and industry because they can provide a viable solution that improves road safety and comfort for travelers on roads. However, wireless communications over open-access environments face many security and privacy issues that may affect deployment of large-scale VANETs. Researchers have proposed different protocols to address security and privacy issues in a VANET, and in this study we cryptanalyze some of the privacy preserving protocols to show that all existing protocols are vulnerable to the Sybil attack. The Sybil attack can be used by malicious actors to create fake… More >

Cryptanalysis of an Online/Offline Certificateless Signature Scheme for Internet of Health Things

    Saddam Hussain1, Syed Sajid Ullah2,*, Mohammad Shorfuzzaman3, Mueen Uddin4, Mohammed Kaosar5

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.30, No.3, pp. 983-993, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.019486

Abstract Recently, Khan et al. [An online-offline certificateless signature scheme for internet of health things,” Journal of Healthcare Engineering, vol. 2020] presented a new certificateless offline/online signature scheme for Internet of Health Things (IoHT) to fulfill the authenticity requirements of the resource-constrained environment of (IoHT) devices. The authors claimed that the newly proposed scheme is formally secured against Type-I adversary under the Random Oracle Model (ROM). Unfortunately, their scheme is insecure against adaptive chosen message attacks. It is demonstrated that an adversary can forge a valid signature on a message by replacing the public key. Furthermore, we performed a comparative analysis… More >

A survey on the Metaheuristics for Cryptanalysis of Substitution and Transposition Ciphers

Arkan Kh Shakr Sabonchi*, Bahriye Akay

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.39, No.1, pp. 87-106, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.05365

Abstract This paper presents state-of-art cryptanalysis studies on attacks of the substitution and transposition ciphers using various metaheuristic algorithms. Traditional cryptanalysis methods employ an exhaustive search, which is computationally expensive. Therefore, metaheuristics have attracted the interest of researchers in the cryptanalysis field. Metaheuristic algorithms are known for improving the search for the optimum solution and include Genetic Algorithm, Simulated Annealing, Tabu Search, Particle Swarm Optimization, Differential Evolution, Ant Colony, the Artificial Bee Colony, Cuckoo Search, and Firefly algorithms. The most important part of these various applications is deciding the fitness function to guide the search. This review presents how these algorithms… More >

Cryptanalysis and Improvement of a Chaotic Map-Control-Based and the Plain Image-Related Cryptosystem

    Bin Lu1, Fenlin Liu1, Xin Ge1,*, Zhenyu Li2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.61, No.2, pp. 687-699, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.05633

Abstract Due to the characteristics of chaotic systems, different cryptosystems based on chaos have been proposed to satisfy the security of multimedia data. A plain image-related chaotic algorithm is proposed by Luo et al. with high speed and efficiency. Security weaknesses of the cryptosystem are studied in this paper. It is found that the important secret key information is leaked because an important parameter can be obtained after an inverse operation in the last step of the cryptosystems without secret key. Meanwhile, the value zero is processed improperly in quantification algorithm. Based on the weaknesses, chosen plaintext attack on the cryptosystem… More >
