The operating conditions during power grid integration of renewable energy can affect the performance and failure risk of battery energy storage system (BESS).     Abstract To investigate the influences of co-flow and counter-flow modes of reactant flow arrangement on a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) during start-up, unsteady physical and mathematical models fully coupling the flow, heat, and electrochemical reactions in a PEMFC are established.     Abstract This paper demonstrates the importance of three-dimensional (3-D) piezoelectric coupling in the electromechanical behavior of piezoelectric devices using three-dimensional finite element analyses based on weak and strong coupling models for a thin cantilevered piezoelectric bimorph actuator. It is found that there is a significant difference between the strong and weak coupling solutions given by coupling direct and inverse piezoelectric effects (i.e., piezoelectric coupling effect).
