Sustainable Asphalt Concrete Containing RAP and Coal Gangue Aggregate: Performance, Costs, and Environmental Impact

    Yuquan Yao1, Jie Gao2,3, Jiangang Yang2,3,*, Bocheng Huang4, Liang Song5

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.8, pp. 2263-2285, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.018911 - 25 April 2022

Abstract The shortage of natural aggregates is becoming a severe problem in the pavement industry globally. To address this issue, in this study, an effort was made to use reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and coal gangue (CG) as coarse and fine aggregate, respectively for producing the hot mix asphalt (HMA). As the replacement of natural aggregate, there were seven types of HMA containing 20% and 40% RAP coarse aggregate content, and 10% and 25% CG fine aggregate content were designed and prepared. In addition, Marshall Stability test, rutting resistance test, immersion Marshall test, freezing-thaw splitting test,… More > Graphic Abstract

Energy and Cost Analysis of Processing Flat Plate Solar Collectors

    Mamdouh El Haj Assad1,*, Ali Khosravi2, Mohammad AlShabi3, Bassam Khuwaileh3, Abdul-Kadir Hamid4

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.3, pp. 447-458, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014590 - 22 March 2021

Abstract In this work, a life cycle analysis is accomplished for flat plate solar collectors. The purpose of this investigation is to predict the energy consumption during the manufacturing processes that results in carbon dioxide emissions. Energy consumption and system efficiency enhancement will be studied and predicted. CES EduPack software is used to perform the analysis of the currently commercial system, and the suggested changes are implemented to increase the efficiency and make the comparison. Even though cost analysis is done, the priority of selection is given to the most energy conserving and environmentally friendly alternative. More >

Performance and Cost Analysis of Energy Production from Offshore Wind Turbines

    Haytham Ayoub, Ehab Hussein Bani-Hani*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.1, pp. 41-47, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.010412 - 28 February 2020

Abstract Offshore wind turbine is analyzed theoretically and experimentally for improving wind energy harvesting. The energy produced is calculated at different wind speeds. The wind speed curve is generated by measuring the wind speed on daily base for one year. Curves that show the power extraction for experimental study and from the theoretical calculations are generated. The energy production investigation is expanded over a period of 15 years after comparing the annual energy production in theory and practice. The study shows the cost of electricity over the same time period assuming different interest rates. Three time… More >

An Integer Programming Method for CPM Time-Cost Analysis

    A. P. Chassiakos, C. I. Samaras, D. D. Theodorakopoulos1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.1, No.4, pp. 9-18, 2000, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2000.001.461

Abstract Time and cost to complete a project is an important tradeoff problem in project planning and control. Existing methods have not provided an accepted solution in terms of both accuracy and efficiency. In an attempt to improve the solution process, a method is presented for developing optimal project time-cost curves based on CPM analysis. Using activity succession information, project paths are developed and duration is calculated. Following that, duration is reduced in an optimal way employing integer programming. Two alternative formulations are proposed which lead to corresponding algorithms, a progressive duration reduction and a direct More >
