Effect of Alternation of Aging and Seawater Erosion on Properties of Rubber Material Used in Lead Rubber Bearing

    Yanmin Li1,2, Guifeng Zhao2,3, Yuhong Ma1,2,*, Rong Liu1,2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.6, pp. 1641-1658, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.018277 - 20 January 2022

Abstract An artificially accelerated alternation of aging and seawater erosion test of rubber materials used in lead rubber bearing (LRB) was performed, mainly to study the time-varying laws of rubber materials mechanical properties. Time-varying laws of the Mooney–Rivlin and Neo-Hookean constitutive parameters of rubber materials under the alternation of aging and seawater erosion were also analyzed. Results indicate that the rubber material mechanical properties were significantly affected by alternation of aging and seawater erosion. Hardness and elongation stress increased exponentially with test time. And 120 days after the test, the hardness increased by 14%, the maximum… More >

Shape-Effect in the Effective Laws of Plain and Rubberized Concrete

    E. Ferretti

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.30, No.3, pp. 237-284, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2012.030.237

Abstract The procedure of the effective law outlined in this paper [Ferretti (2001); Ferretti and Di Leo (2003); Ferretti (2004b)] is an experimental procedure for identifying the constitutive law in uniaxial compression of brittle heterogeneous materials, and is based on the physical, analytical and numerical discussions about the existence or otherwise of strain-softening [Ferretti (2004a); Ferretti (2005)]. This procedure allows us to correct several incongruities that characterize the average stress versus average strain diagrams: it produces evidence against strain-softening in uniaxial compression [Ferretti (2004b)], whose existence may be questioned from a physical point of view [Ferretti… More >

Identification of Elasto-Plastic Constitutive Parameters by Self-Optimizing Inverse Method: Experimental Verifications

Shen Shang and Gun Jin Yun1,1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.27, No.1, pp. 55-72, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2012.027.055

Abstract In this paper, the Self-Optimizing Inverse Method (Self-OPTIM) has been experimentally verified by identifying constitutive parameters solely based on prescribed boundary loadings without full-field displacements. Recently the Self-OPTIM methodology was developed as a computational inverse analysis tool that can identify parameters of nonlinear material constitutive models. However, the methodology was demonstrated only by numerically simulated testing with full-field displacement fields and prescribed boundary loadings. The Self-OPTIM is capable of identifying parameters of the chosen class of material constitutive models through minimization of an implicit objective function defined as a function of full-field stress and strain… More >

Effects of Constitutive Parameters and Dynamic Tensile Loads on Radially Periodic Oscillation of Micro-Void Centered at Incompressible Hyperelastic Spheres

    X.G. Yuan1,2, H.W. Zhang1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.40, No.3, pp. 201-224, 2009, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2009.040.201

Abstract The radially symmetric motion of the pre-existing micro-void centered at an incompressible hyperelastic sphere under the dynamic surface tensile loads relating to time is investigated in this paper. Some interesting conclusions are obtained by qualitatively analyzing the solutions of the motion equation of micro-void in detail; meanwhile, numerical simulations are used for understanding the obtained conclusions. In particular, it is proved that the motion of the micro-void with time would present a nonlinearly periodic oscillation if the values of the constant tensile load, the material and the structure parameters are given and that the oscillation More >

Cracking and Creep Role in Displacements at Constant Load: Concrete Solids in Compression

    E. Ferretti1, A. Di Leo1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.7, No.2, pp. 59-80, 2008, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2008.007.059

Abstract The main assumption on the basis of the identifying model of the effective law, developed by the Author, is the impossibility of considering the specimen as a continuum, when an identifying procedure from load-displacement to stress-strain in uniaxial compression is attempted. Actually, a failure mechanism with propagation of a macro-crack was found to activate from the very beginning of the uniaxial compression test forth. This leads to considering the acquired displacements as composed by two quotes: one constitutive, due to the material strain, and one of crack opening. Since the ratio between these two quotes… More >

Effect of Constitutive Parameters on Cavity Formation and Growth in a Class of Incompressible Transversely Isotropic Nonlinearly Elastic Solid Spheres

    X.G. Yuan1,2, R.J. Zhang2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.2, No.3, pp. 201-212, 2005, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2005.002.201

Abstract Cavity formation and growth in a class of incompressible transversely isotropic nonlinearly elastic solid spheres are described as a bifurcation problem, for which the strain energy density is expressed as a nonlinear function of the invariants of the right Cauchy-Green deformation tensor. A bifurcation equation that describes cavity formation and growth is obtained. Some interesting qualitative properties of the bifurcation equation are presented. In particular, cavitated bifurcation is examined for a solid sphere composed of an incompressible anisotropic Gent-Thomas material model with a transversely isotropy about the radial direction. The effect of constitutive parameters on… More >
