Conceptual Design Process for LEO Satellite Constellations Based on System Engineering Disciplines

Ali Salehi, Mahdi Fakoor*, Amirreza Kosari, Seyed Mohammad Navid Ghoreishi

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.131, No.2, pp. 599-618, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.018840 - 14 March 2022

Abstract Satellite design process is an interdisciplinary subject in which the need for collaboration among various science and engineering disciplines is evident. Meanwhile, finding an optimal process for conceptual design of a satellite, which can optimize time and cost, is still an important issue. In this paper, based on system engineering approach, an optimal design process is proposed for LEO satellite constellations. In the proposed method, design process, design sequences, and data flow are established. In this regard, the conceptual design process is divided into two levels of mission (or constellation) and system (or satellite) as More >

Conceptual Design of Glass/Renewable Natural Fibre-Reinforced Polymer Hybrid Composite Motorcycle Side Cover

    M. A. F. A. Wahab1, S. M. Sapuan1,2,*, M. M. Harussani1, M. Y. M. Zuhri1, A. A. Saleh3

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.11, pp. 1973-1989, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.016221 - 04 June 2021

Abstract This paper presents the development process relating to the conceptual design of glass/renewable natural fibrereinforced polymer hybrid composite motorcycle side cover. Motorcycle side cover is a component frequently made from plastic or steel that functions on covering the motorcycle parts, components and systems such as frame, battery, electrical systems and mechanical systems. Function Analysis Systems Techniques (FAST) is used to identify the functions of motorcycle side cover. The right-side cover of motorcycle model SYM E-Bonus 110 has been physically studied to identify the competitive benchmarking criteria. The functions and competitive benchmarking criteria are then compiled… More >

Conceptual Design and Selection of Natural Fibre Reinforced Biopolymer Composite (NFBC) Takeout Food Container

    H. N. Salwa1, S. M. Sapuan1,2,*, M. T. Mastura3, M. Y. M. Zuhri2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.4, pp. 803-827, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.013977 - 01 February 2021

Abstract Biopolymer composite has gained huge attention for its beneficial properties such as biodegradable and less impact to the environment. This consequently would diminish the dependency on the petroleum-based polymer. Abundance of studies have been done on the development and characterization of biopolymer composite materials for food packaging application, but work on the conceptual design of biopolymer composite packaging product is hardly found. Using the Kano Model, Quality Function Deployment for Environment (QFDE), morphological map, and Analytic Hierarchy Method (AHP) framework combination, this paper presents the conceptual design of a natural fibre reinforced biopolymer composites take-out More >

Conceptual Design of Natural Fiber Composites as a Side-Door Impact Beam Using Hybrid Approach

    M. A. Shaharuzaman1,2,3, S. M. Sapuan1,4,*, M. R. Mansor2,3, M. Y. M. Zuhri1,4

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.8, No.5, pp. 549-563, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2020.08769 - 29 April 2020

Abstract This paper presents the conceptual design stage in the product development process of a natural fiber composites of the side-door impact beam, which starts from idea generation to the selection of the best design concept. This paper also demonstrates the use of the integrated Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (Function-Oriented Search) (TRIZ (FOS)) and Biomimetics method, as well as the VIseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) method. The aim of this study was to generate design concepts that were inspired by nature and to select the best design concept for the composite side-door impact beam.… More >

Optimal Building Frame Column Design Based on the Genetic Algorithm

    Tao Shen1,*, Yukari Nagai1, Chan Gao2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.58, No.3, pp. 641-651, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.04885

Abstract Building structure is like the skeleton of the building, it bears the effects of various forces and forms a supporting system, which is the material basis on which the building depends. Hence building structure design is a vital part in architecture design, architects often explore novel applications of their technologies for building structure innovation. However, such searches relied on experiences, expertise or gut feeling. In this paper, a new design method for the optimal building frame column design based on the genetic algorithm is proposed. First of all, in order to construct the optimal model More >

Multi–Disciplinary Optimization for the Conceptual Design of Innovative Aircraft Configurations

    Luigi Morino1, Giovanni Bernardini1, Franco Mastroddi2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.13, No.1, pp. 1-18, 2006, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2006.013.001

Abstract The paper presents an overview of recent work by the authors and their collaborators on multi--disciplinary optimization for conceptual design, based on the integrated modeling of structures, aerodynamics, and aeroelasticity. The motivation for the work is the design of innovative aircraft configurations, and is therefore first--principles based, since in this case the designer cannot rely upon past experience. The algorithms used and the philosophy behind the choices are discussed. More >
