Analysis of Linear and Nonlinear Vibrations of Composite Rectangular Sandwich Plates with Lattice Cores

    Alireza Moradi, Alireza Shaterzadeh*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.82, No.1, pp. 223-257, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.059441 - 03 January 2025

Abstract For the first time, the linear and nonlinear vibrations of composite rectangular sandwich plates with various geometric patterns of lattice core have been analytically examined in this work. The plate comprises a lattice core located in the middle and several homogeneous orthotropic layers that are symmetrical relative to it. For this purpose, the partial differential equations of motion have been derived based on the first-order shear deformation theory, employing Hamilton’s principle and Von Kármán’s nonlinear displacement-strain relations. Then, the nonlinear partial differential equations of the plate are converted into a time-dependent nonlinear ordinary differential equation… More >

The Out-of-Plane Strain Measurement of Composite Sandwich Plate with Fully-Potted Insert Using Digital Phase-Shifting Shearography

    Song-Jeng Huang1, Yan-Fu Liu2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.4, No.3, pp. 187-194, 2007, DOI:10.3970/icces.2007.004.187

Abstract A digital shearographic (DS) technique is a tool well-suited for precision strain measurement and is a nondestructive testing technology. But the fringe patterns of shearography are not so clear. A phase-shifting technique is incorporated into DS and demonstrated to yield fringe patterns with good quality. The major purpose of this study is to produce a measuring system of digital phase-shifting shearography (DPSS) to measure out-of-plan strain of sandwich plate with fully-potted insert. The system mainly includes piezoelectric transducer, servo controller, Michelson shearing mechanism, image processing system and loading system. The Macy algorithm is used for More >

Flutter of Thermally Buckled Composite Sandwich Plates

    Le-Chung Shiau1, Shih-Yao Kuo2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.5, No.3, pp. 213-222, 2007, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2007.005.213

Abstract A high precision high order triangular plate element is developed for the linear flutter analysis of thermally buckled composite sandwich plates. Due to uneven thermal expansion in the two local material directions, the buckling mode of the plate may be shifted from one pattern to another for certain fiber orientation or plate aspect ratio as the aerodynamic pressure is present. This buckle pattern change alters the frequencies and modes of the plate and that in turn changes the flutter coalescent modes. Numerical results show that temperature has a destabilizing effect on the flutter boundary but More >

Asymptotic Postbuckling Analysis of Composite and Sandwich Structures via the Assumed Strain Solid Shell Element Formulation

Jihan Kim1, Yong Hyup Kim1, Sung Won Lee2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.6, No.3, pp. 263-276, 2004, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2004.006.263

Abstract The Koiter's asymptotic method is combined with the assumed strain solid shell element formulation for postbuckling analysis of composite and sandwich structures. The assumed strain solid shell element is free of locking and the small angle assumption, and it allows multiple plies through the element thickness. While laminated composite structures are modeled with single element through the thickness, sandwich structures are modeled with three elements stacked through the thickness to model the face sheets and the core independently. The Koiter's method is used to trace initial postbuckling path. Subsequently, the Koiter's method is switched to More >
