    CASE REPORT

A Case Report of Primary Pulmonary Lymphoepithelioma-Like Carcinoma with “Harmful” Pseudoprogression and a Pathological Complete Response (pCR) after Immunotherapy Plus Radiotherapy

Si Qin, Shu Tang, Lijiao Xie, Jianbo Zhu, Jianguo Sun*

    Oncology Research, Vol.33, No.12, pp. 4145-4154, 2025, DOI:10.32604/or.2025.068300 - 27 November 2025

Abstract Background: Primary pulmonary lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (PPLELC) is a rare subtype of primary non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), with no established treatment guidelines. We present a case of a young female with PPLELC who achieved a pathological complete response (pCR) in both primary and metastatic lesions after receiving combined immunotherapy and radiotherapy. Case description: We present a 33-year-old female patient with stage IVa (cT2bN0M1b) PPLELC. As a first-line treatment, the patient received seven cycles of nab-paclitaxel combined with toripalimab (a PD-1 inhibitor) and achieved stable disease. This was followed by toripalimab maintenance therapy for nearly 30 months.… More >

Race as a predictor of pathologic response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy at time of cystectomy for bladder cancer

    Ankur Choksi1, Shu Wang1, Michael Phelan1, Heather Mannuel2, Michael Naslund1, Mohummad Minhaj Siddiqui1

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.28, No.1, pp. 10547-10555, 2021

Abstract Introduction: Complete pathologic response (pT0) at time of cystectomy after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has been associated with significantly improved clinical outcomes. The goal of this study is to examine whether race is a predictor of pT0 response to NAC at time of cystectomy.
Materials and methods: We analyzed the records of patients diagnosed with a non-metastatic (M0) muscle-invasive (cT2+) urothelial cell bladder cancer in the National Cancer Database (NCDB) who underwent a cystectomy from 2006 to 2014. The cohort was stratified by whether the patient received NAC prior to cystectomy. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were… More >

A Retrospective Analysis of 94 Patients with Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis of Unknown Etiology from a Single Center

Xiaodan He, Jingshi Wang, Zhao Wang*

    Oncologie, Vol.23, No.4, pp. 559-567, 2021, DOI:10.32604/oncologie.2021.018647 - 31 December 2021

Abstract Despite extensive work-ups, some patients have been diagnosed with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) of unknown etiology. For HLH of unknown etiology, to investigate the clinical features and the factors that may affect the prognosis, we retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 94 patients hospitalized from January 2014 to December 2019. Survival times were evaluated until April 2020. For the 94 patients, the underlying causes of their diseases remained unclear at the end of the follow-up period, and the 1-, 3-, and 6-month survival rates, and the overall survival (OS) rates were 86.2%, 78.7%, 73.4%, and 70.2%,… More >

Abstract Pathological complete response after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced rectal cancer patients is related to a favorable prognosis. The identification of early biomarkers predictive of pathological complete response would help optimize the multimodality management of the patients. A panel of 11 tumor-related proteins was investigated by immunohistochemistry in the pretreatment biopsy of a group of locally advanced rectal cancer patients to identify early biomarkers of pathological complete response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. A mono-institutional retrospective cohort of 95 stage II/III locally advanced rectal cancer patients treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy and surgery was selected based on clinical–pathological… More >

Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy in Triple Negative Breast Cancer: An Observational Study

Zhiying Shao*†, Shalini Chaudhri, Meng Guo§, Longzhen Zhang, Daniel Rea#

    Oncology Research, Vol.23, No.6, pp. 291-302, 2015, DOI:10.3727/096504016X14562725373879

Abstract Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a phenotype of breast cancer with aggressive clinical behavior. Because of the absence of optimal treatment, the prognosis of this disease is poor. The main purpose of this study was to detect the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) in a TNBC cohort and compare the long-term survival between patients with and without pathological complete response (pCR). A total of 53 patients diagnosed with TNBC from 2005 to 2013 who received NACT at the University Hospital Birmingham were enrolled in this study. Overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were… More >
