Energy Analysis of the Aircraft Environment Control System Using Air with and without Humidity

    J. E. López-Gil1, J. F. Ituna-Yudonago1,*, V. Pérez-García2, V. Martínez-Calzada3, J. L. Rodríguez-Muñoz4, J. Serrano-Arellano5

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.23, No.5, pp. 1365-1393, 2025, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2025.068100 - 31 October 2025

Abstract This paper presents a thermophysical study approach for a pure environmental control system (ECS), incorporating the geometric dimensions of heat exchangers, ram air duct, and air cycle machine (ACM) blades of the Sabreliner’s environmental control system. Real flight scenarios are simulated by considering flight input variables such as altitude, aircraft speed, compression ratio of the air cycle machine, and the mass flow rate of bleed air. The study evaluates the coefficient of performance (COP) of the environmental control system, the heat exchanger efficiencies, and the work distribution of the air cycle machine based on five… More >

EFFECT OF EVAPORATOR DIAMETERS ON PERFORMANCES OF A CUSTOM AIR WATER GENERATOR

Mirmanto Mirmantoa,*, Syahrul Syahrula, Agung Tri Wijayantab

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.20, pp. 1-5, 2023, DOI:10.5098/hmt.20.9

Abstract A study to examine the effect of evaporator diameters on the performances of a custom air-water generator had been conducted in naturally room air temperatures. Performances in this study consisted of fresh water production, coefficient of performance, and total heat transfer from the air. The freshwater was attained from the dew that dropped from the evaporator walls. It was from water vapour in the air that condensed due to the low temperature of the evaporator walls. The evaporator which had dimensions of 285 mm x 12.7 mm x 480 mm was placed in an open More >

Experimental Investigation on the Performance of Heat Pump Operating with Copper and Alumina Nanofluids

Faizan Ahmed*, Waqar Ahmed Khan, Jamal Nayfeh

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.3, pp. 2843-2856, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.012041 - 28 December 2020

Abstract In the present study, an attempt is made to enhance the performance of heat pump by utilizing two types of nanofluids namely, copper and alumina nanofluids. These nanofluids were employed around the evaporator coil of the heat pump. The nanofluids were used to enhance the heat input to the system by means of providing an external jacket around the evaporator coil. Both the nanofluids were prepared in three volume fractions 1%, 2% and 5%. Water was chosen as the base fluid. The performance of the heat pump was assessed by calculating the coefficient of performance… More >
