Stroke Risk Assessment Decision-Making Using a Machine Learning Model: Logistic-AdaBoost

    Congjun Rao1, Mengxi Li1, Tingting Huang2,*, Feiyu Li1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.1, pp. 699-724, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.044898

Abstract Stroke is a chronic cerebrovascular disease that carries a high risk. Stroke risk assessment is of great significance in preventing, reversing and reducing the spread and the health hazards caused by stroke. Aiming to objectively predict and identify strokes, this paper proposes a new stroke risk assessment decision-making model named Logistic-AdaBoost (Logistic-AB) based on machine learning. First, the categorical boosting (CatBoost) method is used to perform feature selection for all features of stroke, and 8 main features are selected to form a new index evaluation system to predict the risk of stroke. Second, the borderline synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE)… More >

Novel Early-Warning Model for Customer Churn of Credit Card Based on GSAIBAS-CatBoost

Yaling Xu, Congjun Rao*, Xinping Xiao, Fuyan Hu*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.137, No.3, pp. 2715-2742, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.029023

Abstract As the banking industry gradually steps into the digital era of Bank 4.0, business competition is becoming increasingly fierce, and banks are also facing the problem of massive customer churn. To better maintain their customer resources, it is crucial for banks to accurately predict customers with a tendency to churn. Aiming at the typical binary classification problem like customer churn, this paper establishes an early-warning model for credit card customer churn. That is a dual search algorithm named GSAIBAS by incorporating Golden Sine Algorithm (GSA) and an Improved Beetle Antennae Search (IBAS) is proposed to optimize the parameters of the… More > Graphic Abstract

Machine Learning and Artificial Neural Network for Predicting Heart Failure Risk

    Polin Rahman1, Ahmed Rifat1, MD. IftehadAmjad Chy1, Mohammad Monirujjaman Khan1,*, Mehedi Masud2, Sultan Aljahdali2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.44, No.1, pp. 757-775, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.021469

Abstract Heart failure is now widely spread throughout the world. Heart disease affects approximately 48% of the population. It is too expensive and also difficult to cure the disease. This research paper represents machine learning models to predict heart failure. The fundamental concept is to compare the correctness of various Machine Learning (ML) algorithms and boost algorithms to improve models’ accuracy for prediction. Some supervised algorithms like K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Decision Trees (DT), Random Forest (RF), Logistic Regression (LR) are considered to achieve the best results. Some boosting algorithms like Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) and CatBoost are… More >

Comprehensive DDoS Attack Classification Using Machine Learning Algorithms

    Olga Ussatova1,2, Aidana Zhumabekova1,*, Yenlik Begimbayeva2,3, Eric T. Matson4, Nikita Ussatov5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.1, pp. 577-594, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.026552

Abstract The fast development of Internet technologies ignited the growth of techniques for information security that protect data, networks, systems, and applications from various threats. There are many types of threats. The dedicated denial of service attack (DDoS) is one of the most serious and widespread attacks on Internet resources. This attack is intended to paralyze the victim's system and cause the service to fail. This work is devoted to the classification of DDoS attacks in the special network environment called Software-Defined Networking (SDN) using machine learning algorithms. The analyzed dataset included instances of two classes: benign and malicious. As the… More >

Estimating Daily Dew Point Temperature Based on Local and Cross-Station Meteorological Data Using CatBoost Algorithm

    Fuqi Yao1, Jinwei Sun1, Jianhua Dong2,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.130, No.2, pp. 671-700, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.018450

Abstract Accurate estimation of dew point temperature (Tdew) plays a very important role in the fields of water resource management, agricultural engineering, climatology and energy utilization. However, there are few studies on the applicability of local Tdew algorithms at regional scales. This study evaluated the performance of a new machine learning algorithm, i.e., gradient boosting on decision trees with categorical features support (CatBoost) to estimate daily Tdew using limited local and cross-station meteorological data. The random forests (RF) algorithm was also assessed for comparison. Daily meteorological data from 2016 to 2019, including maximum, minimum and average temperature (Tmax, Tmin and Tmean),… More >

Adaptive Error Curve Learning Ensemble Model for Improving Energy Consumption Forecasting

    Prince Waqas Khan, Yung-Cheol Byun*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.2, pp. 1893-1913, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.018523

Abstract Despite the advancement within the last decades in the field of smart grids, energy consumption forecasting utilizing the metrological features is still challenging. This paper proposes a genetic algorithm-based adaptive error curve learning ensemble (GA-ECLE) model. The proposed technique copes with the stochastic variations of improving energy consumption forecasting using a machine learning-based ensembled approach. A modified ensemble model based on a utilizing error of model as a feature is used to improve the forecast accuracy. This approach combines three models, namely CatBoost (CB), Gradient Boost (GB), and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP). The ensembled CB-GB-MLP model’s inner mechanism consists of generating… More >
