    Haichen Li1,2, Jianghai Li1, Li Li3,4,*, Zhandong Li5,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.9, pp. 2435-2447, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.050771 - 19 August 2024

Abstract The turbidite channel of South China Sea has been highly concerned. Influenced by the complex fault and the rapid phase change of lithofacies, predicting the channel through conventional seismic attributes is not accurate enough. In response to this disadvantage, this study used a method combining grey relational analysis (GRA) and support vector machine (SVM) and established a set of prediction technical procedures suitable for reservoirs with complex geological conditions. In the case study of the Huangliu Formation in Qiongdongnan Basin, South China Sea, this study first dimensionalized the conventional seismic attributes of Gas Layer Group… More >

Offshore Software Maintenance Outsourcing Process Model Validation: A Case Study Approach

Atif Ikram1,2,*, Masita Abdul Jalil1, Amir Bin Ngah1, Adel Sulaiman3, Muhammad Akram3, Ahmad Salman Khan4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.3, pp. 5035-5048, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.034692 - 28 December 2022

Abstract The successful execution and management of Offshore Software Maintenance Outsourcing (OSMO) can be very beneficial for OSMO vendors and the OSMO client. Although a lot of research on software outsourcing is going on, most of the existing literature on offshore outsourcing deals with the outsourcing of software development only. Several frameworks have been developed focusing on guiding software system managers concerning offshore software outsourcing. However, none of these studies delivered comprehensive guidelines for managing the whole process of OSMO. There is a considerable lack of research working on managing OSMO from a vendor’s perspective. Therefore,… More >

Abstract Flash floods are one of the most dangerous natural disasters, especially in hilly terrain, causing loss of life, property, and infrastructures and sudden disruption of traffic. These types of floods are mostly associated with landslides and erosion of roads within a short time. Most of Vietnam is hilly and mountainous; thus, the problem due to flash flood is severe and requires systematic studies to correctly identify flood susceptible areas for proper landuse planning and traffic management. In this study, three Machine Learning (ML) methods namely Deep Learning Neural Network (DL), Correlation-based Feature Weighted Naive Bayes… More >

Optimization of a Solar Chimney with a Horizontal Absorber for Building Ventilation: A Case Study

    El Hadji I Cisse1,*, Baye Alioune Ndiogou1,2, Soumaïla Tigampo1, Ababacar Thiam1,3, Dorothé Azilinon1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.4, pp. 901-910, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021973 - 02 November 2022

Abstract A study is conducted to optimize the geometry of a solar chimney equipped with a horizontal absorber in order to improve its performances in relation to the provision of ventilation. The problem is tackled through numerical solution of the governing equations for mass, momentum and energy in their complete three-dimensional and unsteady formulation. The numerical framework also includes a turbulence model (k-ε) and a radiant heat transfer (DO) model. Moreover, a Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA) is employed to derive the optimal configuration of the considered solar chimney. It is shown that an air velocity of More >

Abstract Aluminum is an abundant metal in the earth’s crust that turns out to be toxic in acidic environments. Many plants are affected by the presence of aluminum at the whole plant level, at the organ level, and at the cellular level. Tobacco as a cash crop (Nicotiana tabacum L.) is a widely cultivated plant worldwide and is also a good model organism for research. Although there are many articles on Al-phytotoxicity in the literature, reviews on a single species that are economically and scientifically important are limited. In this article, we not only provide the biology… More >

Abstract The feasibility of Plus Energy Building for a sample relevant case is investigated. After a literature review aimed to identify key aspects of this type of buildings, a preliminary evaluation of the thermal performance of a building constructed using conventional material is presented together with a parametric analysis of the impact of typical influential parameters. Solar domestic hot water (SDHW) and photovoltaic systems (PV) are considered in the study. Numerical simulations indicate that for the examined sample case (Beirut in Lebanon) the total annual energy need of conventional building is 87.1 kWh/y.m2 . About 49% of More >

USE OF SILVER NANOPARTICLES MIXED WITH DEIONIZED WATER IN A RECTANGULAR TWO-PHASE CLOSED THERMOSYPHON: A CASE STUDY OF THE TWO-PHASE FLOW

Namphon Pipatpaiboona , Teerapat Chompookhamb, Sampan Rittidechb, Yulong Dingc, Thanya Parametthanuwatd, Surachet Sichamnana,*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.19, pp. 1-9, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.19.24

Abstract When nanofluid (NF) is used as the working fluid in a rectangular two-phase closed thermosyphon (RTPCT), the formations and heat performance of two-phase flow patterns are explored qualitatively. Silver nanoparticles were mixed with deionized water at a concentration of 0.5 wt% in the NF. Nanoparticles improved the thermal contact surface area within the base flow, allowing the base fluid to boil quickly and easily. When the working fluid was boiled, NF also demonstrated high thermal conductivity capabilities, which diffused and moved along with the dual flow patterns. As a result, these qualities improved the RTPCT's More >

Prerequisite Relations among Knowledge Units: A Case Study of Computer Science Domain

    Fatema Nafa1,*, Amal Babour2, Austin Melton3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.133, No.3, pp. 639-652, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.020084 - 03 August 2022

Abstract The importance of prerequisites for education has recently become a promising research direction. This work proposes a statistical model for measuring dependencies in learning resources between knowledge units. Instructors are expected to present knowledge units in a semantically well-organized manner to facilitate students’ understanding of the material. The proposed model reveals how inner concepts of a knowledge unit are dependent on each other and on concepts not in the knowledge unit. To help understand the complexity of the inner concepts themselves, WordNet is included as an external knowledge base in this model. The goal is More >
