Multi-CNN Fusion Framework for Predictive Violence Detection in Animated Media

    Tahira Khalil1, Sadeeq Jan2,*, Rania M. Ghoniem3, Muhammad Imran Khan Khalil1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.86, No.2, pp. 1-20, 2026, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2025.072655 - 09 December 2025

Abstract The contemporary era is characterized by rapid technological advancements, particularly in the fields of communication and multimedia. Digital media has significantly influenced the daily lives of individuals of all ages. One of the emerging domains in digital media is the creation of cartoons and animated videos. The accessibility of the internet has led to a surge in the consumption of cartoons among young children, presenting challenges in monitoring and controlling the content they view. The prevalence of cartoon videos containing potentially violent scenes has raised concerns regarding their impact, especially on young and impressionable minds.… More >

Robust Multi-Label Cartoon Character Classification on the Novel Kral Sakir Dataset Using Deep Learning Techniques

    Candan Tumer1, Erdal Guvenoglu2, Volkan Tunali3,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.85, No.3, pp. 5135-5158, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2025.067840 - 23 October 2025

Abstract Automated cartoon character recognition is crucial for applications in content indexing, filtering, and copyright protection, yet it faces a significant challenge in animated media due to high intra-class visual variability, where characters frequently alter their appearance. To address this problem, we introduce the novel Kral Sakir dataset, a public benchmark of 16,725 images specifically curated for the task of multi-label cartoon character classification under these varied conditions. This paper conducts a comprehensive benchmark study, evaluating the performance of state-of-the-art pretrained Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), including DenseNet, ResNet, and VGG, against a custom baseline model trained More >

Optimizing 2D Image Quality in CartoonGAN: A Novel Approach Using Enhanced Pixel Integration

    Stellar Choi1, HeeAe Ko2, KyungRok Bae3, HyunSook Lee2, HaeJong Joo4, Woong Choi5,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.83, No.1, pp. 335-355, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2025.061243 - 26 March 2025

Abstract Previous research utilizing Cartoon Generative Adversarial Network (CartoonGAN) has encountered limitations in managing intricate outlines and accurately representing lighting effects, particularly in complex scenes requiring detailed shading and contrast. This paper presents a novel Enhanced Pixel Integration (EPI) technique designed to improve the visual quality of images generated by CartoonGAN. Rather than modifying the core model, the EPI approach employs post-processing adjustments that enhance images without significant computational overhead. In this method, images produced by CartoonGAN are converted from Red-Green-Blue (RGB) to Hue-Saturation-Value (HSV) format, allowing for precise adjustments in hue, saturation, and brightness, thereby… More >

ECGAN: Translate Real World to Cartoon Style Using Enhanced Cartoon Generative Adversarial Network

    Yixin Tang*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.76, No.1, pp. 1195-1212, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.039182 - 08 June 2023

Abstract Visual illustration transformation from real-world to cartoon images is one of the famous and challenging tasks in computer vision. Image-to-image translation from real-world to cartoon domains poses issues such as a lack of paired training samples, lack of good image translation, low feature extraction from the previous domain images, and lack of high-quality image translation from the traditional generator algorithms. To solve the above-mentioned issues, paired independent model, high-quality dataset, Bayesian-based feature extractor, and an improved generator must be proposed. In this study, we propose a high-quality dataset to reduce the effect of paired training… More >

Generating Cartoon Images from Face Photos with Cycle-Consistent Adversarial Networks

    Tao Zhang1,2, Zhanjie Zhang1,2,*, Wenjing Jia3, Xiangjian He3, Jie Yang4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.2, pp. 2733-2747, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.019305 - 21 July 2021

Abstract The generative adversarial network (GAN) is first proposed in 2014, and this kind of network model is machine learning systems that can learn to measure a given distribution of data, one of the most important applications is style transfer. Style transfer is a class of vision and graphics problems where the goal is to learn the mapping between an input image and an output image. CYCLE-GAN is a classic GAN model, which has a wide range of scenarios in style transfer. Considering its unsupervised learning characteristics, the mapping is easy to be learned between an… More >

Jan Misugi in Captain Tsubasa as an Educational Example for Children with Congenital Heart Disease

    Nicolas Kluger1,2, Philippe Charlier3,4, Antonio Perciaccante3,5,*

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.15, No.3, pp. 163-165, 2020, DOI:10.32604/CHD.2020.012394 - 15 July 2020

Abstract Introduction: Visual narratives such as manga, comics and cartoons can play an important role in educating readers on various aspects of life including medicine and disabilities. Methods: We reviewed the animated series entitled “Captain Tsubasa”, focusing our analysis on the episodes which introduced the character Jun Misugi, a football player suffering from an unspecified congenital heart disease (CHD). Discussion: For a child with a CHD, the practice of sports could be risky but also an opportunity to improve heart function and reach personal fulfillment. CHD have an important impact on children’s quality of life, and sports participation has More >
