Source-Sink Matching Model Focusing on the Feasibility of CO2 Pipeline Transport

    Yubo Jiao1, Wei Wang1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.29, No.3, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011157

Abstract The source-sink matching optimization problem is one of the more important aspects of carbon capture and storage (CCS) system planning studies, and a large number of studies have been conducted using mathematical modeling to assess the feasibility of deployment in the planning region, thus providing important decision support. A framework of optimization system applicable to source-sink matching analysis was constructed based on the structural relationship between directly connected sources and sinks, taking into account multiple factors (transport characteristics, CO2 injection rate and connection period, etc.), which can ensure the feasibility of CO2 pipeline transportation operation and… More >

Low-Carbon Dispatch of an Integrated Energy System Considering Confidence Intervals for Renewable Energy Generation

    Yan Shi1, Wenjie Li1, Gongbo Fan2,*, Luxi Zhang1, Fengjiu Yang1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.2, pp. 461-482, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.043835 - 25 January 2024

Abstract Addressing the insufficiency in down-regulation leeway within integrated energy systems stemming from the erratic and volatile nature of wind and solar renewable energy generation, this study focuses on formulating a coordinated strategy involving the carbon capture unit of the integrated energy system and the resources on the load storage side. A scheduling model is devised that takes into account the confidence interval associated with renewable energy generation, with the overarching goal of optimizing the system for low-carbon operation. To begin with, an in-depth analysis is conducted on the temporal energy-shifting attributes and the low-carbon modulation… More >

Key Transport Mechanisms in Supercritical CO2 Based Pilot Micromodels Subjected to Bottom Heat and Mass Diffusion

    Karim Ragui1, Mengshuai Chen1,2, Lin Chen1,2,3,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.3, pp. 1-2, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.010378

Abstract The ambiguous dynamics associated with heat and mass transfer of invading carbon dioxide in sub-critical and supercritical states, as well as the response of pore-scale resident fluids, play a key role in understanding CO2 capture and storage (CCUS) and the corresponding phase equilibrium mechanisms. To this end, this paper reveals the transport mechanisms of invading supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) in polluted micromodels using a variant of Lattice-Boltzmann Color Fluid model and descriptive experimental data. The breakthrough time is evaluated by characterizing the displacement velocity, the capillary to pressuredifference ratio, and the transient heat and mass diffusion More >

Carbon Capture from Flue Gas Based on the Combination of Non-Contact Hydrophobic Porous Ceramic Membrane and Bubbling Absorption

Yongde Luo, Jiang Jin*, Hua Zhang*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.7, pp. 3143-3153, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.027396 - 05 June 2023

Abstract A hybrid system combined with a non-contact membrane and bubbling absorption is proposed to capture CO2 from flue gas. The non-contact way of membrane and liquid absorbent effectively avoids the reduction of gas diffusion flux through the membrane. High-porosity ceramic membranes in hybrid systems are used for gas-solid separation in fuel gas treatment. Due to the high content of H2O and cement dust in the flue gas of the cement plant, the membrane is hydrophobically modified by polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) to improve its anti-water, anti-fouling, and self-cleaning performances. The results show that the diffusion flux of CO2 through More >

Estimating Carbon Capture Potential of Fallow Weeds in Rice Cropping Systems

    Ge Chen1,2, Yuling Kang1, Fangbo Cao1, Jiana Chen1, Min Huang1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.1, pp. 71-77, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.022313 - 06 September 2022

Abstract Weeds occurred during the fallow season can well perform the function of carbon (C) capture due to receiving little human disturbance. This study aimed to evaluate the C capture potential of fallow weeds in rice (Oryza sativa L.) cropping systems. A six-region, two-year on-farm investigation and a three-year tillage experiment were conducted to estimate C capture in fallow weeds in rice cropping systems. The on-farm investigation showed that the average mean C capture by fallow weeds across six regions and two years reached 112 g m–2. The tillage experiment indicated that no-tillage practices increased C capture by More >

Application of Amine-Functionalized Cellulose Foam for CO2 Capture and Storage in the Brewing Industry

    Lars Helmlinger1, Yejun Zhu1, Julia Gensel1, Thomas Neumeyer1, Stefan Thäter2, Franziska Strube2, Christoph Bauer2, Bernd Rosemann2, Volker Altstädt1*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.6, No.3, pp. 219-225, 2018, DOI:10.7569/JRM.2017.634161

Abstract Due to a lack of technology, smaller breweries simply dump excess CO2 into the atmosphere, fueling the greenhouse effect and global warming. State-of-the-art CO2 capture technologies using nanofibrillated cellulose are expensive and require laborious freeze-drying. Consequently, there is a high demand for affordable alternatives in order to reduce the environmental impact in this industry sector. This work describes a novel route for a quick and cost-efficient synthesis of amine-functionalized cellulose pellets by a surfactant-assisted steam explosion process. Typical values with this method were porosity of 92% and density of 67 g/cm³. Investigations on polyethylenimine (PEI) More >
