Abstract This review provides a comprehensive overview of natural rubber (NR) composites, focusing on their properties, compounding aspects, and renewable practices involving natural fibre reinforcement. The properties of NR are influenced by the compounding process, which incorporates ingredients such as elastomers, vulcanizing agents, accelerators, activators, and fillers like carbon black and silica. While effective in enhancing properties, these fillers lack biodegradability, prompting the exploration of sustainable alternatives. The potential of natural fibres as renewable reinforcements in NR composites is thoroughly covered in this review, highlighting both their advantages, such as improved sustainability, and the challenges they More > Graphic Abstract

Effect of Thermal Ageing on the Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Polypropylene and Polypropylene Micro-Composites

Rachid Bouregba1,2, Bel Abbes Bachir Bouiadjra2,*, Mohamed Mokhtar Bouziane3, Mohamed Amine Bellali2, Mokadem Salem2

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.41, No.3, pp. 143-158, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jpm.2024.056385 - 30 September 2024

Abstract The use of polypropylene composites in various industrial fields has expanded considerably in recent years. A number of researches have been carried out to characterize the performance of polypropylene and its composites. However, the effects of ageing on the long-term behaviour of this thermoplastic are not well understood. The purpose of this study is to analyse the consequences of thermal degradation on the thermal and mechanical properties of three distinct materials: virgin Polypropylene (PP), virgin Polypropylene + talc (PP/talc), and virgin Polypropylene + Carbon Black (PP/CB) micro-composites. Specimens of these materials underwent exposure in an… More >

Effects of Conductive Carbon Black on Thermal and Electrical Properties of Barium Titanate/Polyvinylidene Fluoride Composites for Road Application

Zhenguo Wang, Lenan Wang, Yejing Meng*, Yong Wen, Jianzhong Pei

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.5, pp. 2469-2489, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.025497 - 13 February 2023

Abstract In the field of roads, due to the effect of vehicle loads, piezoelectric materials under the road surface can convert mechanical vibration into electrical energy, which can be further used in road facilities such as traffic signals and street lamps. The barium titanate/polyvinylidene fluoride (BaTiO3/PVDF) composite, the most common hybrid ceramic-polymer system, was widely used in various fields because the composite combines the good dielectric property of ceramic materials with the good flexibility of PVDF material. Previous studies have found that conductive particles can further improve the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of other composites. However, few… More >

Study of the Effect of UV-exposure on HDPE/Carbon Black Composite Floating Structure

ALOK K. SAHUa, RAJSHREE VIJAYVARGIYAa, R. M. SARVIYAb

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.39, No.3-4, pp. 183-193, 2022, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2022.39.3-4.1

Abstract HDPE material is found to be best suited material for the manufacturing of floating bed structure for the solar photovoltaic (PV) system due to its light weight and excellent mechanical & chemical resistant properties. However, the major restriction in this regard is the limited engineering design and also the effect of UV radiations present in the natural environment that leads to the degradation of the plastic materials. Hence, in order to improve its UV stability carbon black is incorporated into it as UV resistant additive and hollow cubical floats of such HDPE/carbon black composite material… More >
