It has been described in association with diabetes, hyperparathyroidism and genitourinary tuberculosis, amongst other conditions.     Clear cell renal cell carcinoma with osseous metaplasia: a case report

    Abstract Introduction: Osseous metaplasia is a rare histologic feature not often associated with renal cell carcinoma; there are only 14 reported cases and just four associated with the clear cell variant. We report the case of a 48-year-old female who presented with diffuse abdominal pain.
    Materials and methods: We reviewed the case of woman who underwent a robotic assisted partial nephrectomy for an enhancing renal mass. Histologic analyses and immunostains were reviewed by multiple pathologists.

    Abstract In this paper, we further investigate the new paradigm for the rupture of thin cap fibroatheroma (TCFA) proposed in Vengrenyuk et al. (2006 PNAS 103:14678) using a multilevel micro-CT based 3D numerical modeling. The new paradigm proposes that the rupture of TCFA is due to stress-induced interfacial debonding of cellular - level, 10 -- 20 μm microcalcifications in the fibrous cap proper.
