A Systematic Review and Performance Evaluation of Open-Source Tools for Smart Contract Vulnerability Detection

Yaqiong He, Jinlin Fan*, Huaiguang Wu

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.80, No.1, pp. 995-1032, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.052887 - 18 July 2024

Abstract With the rise of blockchain technology, the security issues of smart contracts have become increasingly critical. Despite the availability of numerous smart contract vulnerability detection tools, many face challenges such as slow updates, usability issues, and limited installation methods. These challenges hinder the adoption and practicality of these tools. This paper examines smart contract vulnerability detection tools from 2016 to 2023, sourced from the Web of Science (WOS) and Google Scholar. By systematically collecting, screening, and synthesizing relevant research, 38 open-source tools that provide installation methods were selected for further investigation. From a developer’s perspective,… More >

Blockchain Security Threats and Collaborative Defense: A Literature Review

    Xiulai Li1,2,3,4, Jieren Cheng1,3,*, Zhaoxin Shi2,3, Jingxin Liu2,3, Bin Zhang1,3, Xinbing Xu2,3, Xiangyan Tang1,3, Victor S. Sheng5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.76, No.3, pp. 2597-2629, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.040596 - 08 October 2023

Abstract As a distributed database, the system security of the blockchain is of great significance to prevent tampering, protect privacy, prevent double spending, and improve credibility. Due to the decentralized and trustless nature of blockchain, the security defense of the blockchain system has become one of the most important measures. This paper comprehensively reviews the research progress of blockchain security threats and collaborative defense, and we first introduce the overview, classification, and threat assessment process of blockchain security threats. Then, we investigate the research status of single-node defense technology and multi-node collaborative defense technology and summarize More >

Vulnerability Detection of Ethereum Smart Contract Based on SolBERT-BiGRU-Attention Hybrid Neural Model

    Guangxia Xu1,*, Lei Liu2, Jingnan Dong3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.137, No.1, pp. 903-922, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.026627 - 23 April 2023

Abstract In recent years, with the great success of pre-trained language models, the pre-trained BERT model has been gradually applied to the field of source code understanding. However, the time cost of training a language model from zero is very high, and how to transfer the pre-trained language model to the field of smart contract vulnerability detection is a hot research direction at present. In this paper, we propose a hybrid model to detect common vulnerabilities in smart contracts based on a lightweight pre-trained language model BERT and connected to a bidirectional gate recurrent unit model. Enhancing Blockchain Security Using Ripple Consensus Algorithm

    A. Baseera1, Abeer Abdullah Alsadhan2,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.3, pp. 4713-4726, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.029538 - 28 July 2022

Abstract In the development of technology in various fields like big data analysis, data mining, big data, cloud computing, and blockchain technology, security become more constrained. Blockchain is used in providing security by encrypting the sharing of information. Blockchain is applied in the peer-to-peer (P2P) network and it has a decentralized ledger. Providing security against unauthorized breaches in the distributed network is required. To detect unauthorized breaches, there are numerous techniques were developed and those techniques are inefficient and have poor data integrity. Hence, a novel technique needs to be implemented to tackle the new breaches More >

Trustworthiness Evaluation for Permissioned Blockchain-Enabled Applications

    Shi-Cho Cha1, Chuang-Ming Shiung1, Wen-Wei Li1, Chun-Neng Peng1, Yi-Hsuan Hung1, Kuo-Hui Yeh2,3,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.2, pp. 2731-2755, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.029161 - 16 June 2022

Abstract As permissioned blockchain becomes a common foundation of blockchain-based circumstances for current organizations, related stakeholders need a means to assess the trustworthiness of the applications involved within. It is extremely important to consider the potential impact brought by the Blockchain technology in terms of security and privacy. Therefore, this study proposes a rigorous security risk management framework for permissioned blockchain-enabled applications. The framework divides itself into different implementation domains, i.e., organization security, application security, consensus mechanism security, node management and network security, host security and perimeter security, and simultaneously provides guidelines to control the security… More >

Mining Bytecode Features of Smart Contracts to Detect Ponzi Scheme on Blockchain

    Xiajiong Shen1,3, Shuaimin Jiang2,3, Lei Zhang1,2,3,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.127, No.3, pp. 1069-1085, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.015736 - 24 May 2021

Abstract The emergence of smart contracts has increased the attention of industry and academia to blockchain technology, which is tamper-proofing, decentralized, autonomous, and enables decentralized applications to operate in untrustworthy environments. However, these features of this technology are also easily exploited by unscrupulous individuals, a typical example of which is the Ponzi scheme in Ethereum. The negative effect of unscrupulous individuals writing Ponzi scheme-type smart contracts in Ethereum and then using these contracts to scam large amounts of money has been significant. To solve this problem, we propose a detection model for detecting Ponzi schemes in… More >
