    Bin Li*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.10, pp. 2729-2748, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.029649

Abstract In order to overcome the deficiencies of current methods for the prediction of the productivity of shale gas horizontal wells after fracturing, a new sophisticated approach is proposed in this study. This new model stems from the combination several techniques, namely, artificial neural network (ANN), particle swarm optimization (PSO), Imperialist Competitive Algorithms (ICA), and Ant Clony Optimization (ACO). These are properly implemented by using the geological and engineering parameters collected from 317 wells. The results show that the optimum PSO-ANN model has a high accuracy, obtaining a R2 of 0.847 on the testing. The partial dependence plots (PDP) indicate that… More >

    Xunyou Zhang1,2,*, Chuanyang Liu1,3, Zuo Sun1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.7, pp. 1667-1683, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.025186

Abstract A DC distribution network is an effective solution for increasing renewable energy utilization with distinct benefits, such as high efficiency and easy control. However, a sudden increase in the current after the occurrence of faults in the network may adversely affect network stability. This study proposes an artificial neural network (ANN)-based fault detection and protection method for DC distribution networks. The ANN is applied to a classifier for different faults on the DC line. The backpropagation neural network is used to predict the line current, and the fault detection threshold is obtained on the basis of the difference between the… More >

    Payal Soni, J. Subhashini*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.37, No.1, pp. 1225-1242, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.038155

Abstract In the current context, a smart grid has replaced the conventional grid through intelligent energy management, integration of renewable energy sources (RES) and two-way communication infrastructures from power generation to distribution. Energy management from the distribution side is a critical problem for balancing load demand. A unique energy management strategy (EMS) is being developed for office building equipment. That includes renewable energy integration, automation, and control based on the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) system using Matlab Simulink. This strategy reduces electric power consumption and balances the load demand of the traditional grid. This strategy is developed by taking inputs from… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.46, No.3, pp. 3715-3728, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.035687

Abstract Obesity is a critical health condition that severely affects an individual’s quality of life and well-being. The occurrence of obesity is strongly associated with extreme health conditions, such as cardiac diseases, diabetes, hypertension, and some types of cancer. Therefore, it is vital to avoid obesity and or reverse its occurrence. Incorporating healthy food habits and an active lifestyle can help to prevent obesity. In this regard, artificial intelligence (AI) can play an important role in estimating health conditions and detecting obesity and its types. This study aims to see obesity levels in adults by implementing AI-enabled machine learning on a… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.46, No.3, pp. 3491-3508, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.029165

Abstract Suspicious mass traffic constantly evolves, making network behaviour tracing and structure more complex. Neural networks yield promising results by considering a sufficient number of processing elements with strong interconnections between them. They offer efficient computational Hopfield neural networks models and optimization constraints used by undergoing a good amount of parallelism to yield optimal results. Artificial neural network (ANN) offers optimal solutions in classifying and clustering the various reels of data, and the results obtained purely depend on identifying a problem. In this research work, the design of optimized applications is presented in an organized manner. In addition, this research work… More >

Abstract Machine Learning (ML)-based prediction and classification systems employ data and learning algorithms to forecast target values. However, improving predictive accuracy is a crucial step for informed decision-making. In the healthcare domain, data are available in the form of genetic profiles and clinical characteristics to build prediction models for complex tasks like cancer detection or diagnosis. Among ML algorithms, Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) are considered the most suitable framework for many classification tasks. The network weights and the activation functions are the two crucial elements in the learning process of an ANN. These weights affect the prediction ability and the convergence… More >

Power Quality Improvement Using ANN Controller For Hybrid Power Distribution Systems

    Abdul Quawi1,*, Y. Mohamed Shuaib1, M. Manikandan2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.3, pp. 3469-3486, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.035001

Abstract In this work, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based technique is suggested for classifying the faults which occur in hybrid power distribution systems. Power, which is generated by the solar and wind energy-based hybrid system, is given to the grid at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC). A boost converter along with perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm is utilized in this system to obtain a constant link voltage. In contrast, the link voltage of the wind energy conversion system (WECS) is retained with the assistance of a Proportional Integral (PI) controller. The grid synchronization is tainted with the assistance of… More >

Accurate Phase Detection for ZigBee Using Artificial Neural Network

    Ali Alqahtani1, Abdulaziz A. Alsulami2,*, Saeed Alahmari3, Mesfer Alrizq4

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.3, pp. 2505-2518, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.033243

Abstract The IEEE802.15.4 standard has been widely used in modern industry due to its several benefits for stability, scalability, and enhancement of wireless mesh networking. This standard uses a physical layer of binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) modulation and can be operated with two frequency bands, 868 and 915 MHz. The frequency noise could interfere with the BPSK signal, which causes distortion to the signal before its arrival at receiver. Therefore, filtering the BPSK signal from noise is essential to ensure carrying the signal from the sender to the receiver with less error. Therefore, removing signal noise in the BPSK signal is… More >

A Levenberg–Marquardt Based Neural Network for Short-Term Load Forecasting

    Saqib Ali1,2, Shazia Riaz2,3, Safoora2, Xiangyong Liu1, Guojun Wang1,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.1, pp. 1783-1800, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.035736

Abstract Short-term load forecasting (STLF) is part and parcel of the efficient working of power grid stations. Accurate forecasts help to detect the fault and enhance grid reliability for organizing sufficient energy transactions. STLF ranges from an hour ahead prediction to a day ahead prediction. Various electric load forecasting methods have been used in literature for electricity generation planning to meet future load demand. A perfect balance regarding generation and utilization is still lacking to avoid extra generation and misusage of electric load. Therefore, this paper utilizes Levenberg–Marquardt (LM) based Artificial Neural Network (ANN) technique to forecast the short-term electricity load… More >
