Abstract The optimization of methods for the quantitative evaluation of risks in drilling engineering is an effective means to ensure safety in situations where high temperature and high pressure blocks are considered. In such a context, this study analyzes the complexity of the drilled wells in such blocks. It is shown that phenomena such as well kick, loss, circulation, and sticking, are related to the imbalance of wellbore pressure. A method for risk quantitative evaluation is proposed accordingly. The method is used to evaluate the risk for 9 drilled wells. By comparing the predictions of the More > Graphic Abstract

XIAOJUN ZHOU*, XIAOYU LU, XUBO WANG

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.11, pp. 2489-2495, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.020311 - 07 July 2022

Abstract Euptelea pleiosperma is a characteristic species of East Asian flora with both ornamental and scientific values. Based on the reduced-representation sequencing (RRS) technology of RAD-Seq, this study conducted high-throughput Illumina paired-end sequencing to find SSR marker information in the genome of E. pleiosperma, and to screen and verify polymorphism of SSR markers. We obtained 5.5G of high-quality data using RAD-Seq. The total number of contigs of the RAD tags was 299,376, with the maximum contig length of 2,062 bp and the average length of 445 bp. From these sequences, we identified 20,718 SSR loci, with a distribution… More >

Comprehensive Investigation into the Accuracy and Applicability of Monte Carlo Simulations in Stochastic Structural Analysis

    Taicong Chen1, Haitao Ma1, Wei Gao2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.87, No.3, pp. 239-270, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2012.087.239

Abstract Monte Carlo simulation method has been used extensively in probabilistic analyses of engineering systems and its popularity has been growing. While it is widely accepted that the simulation results are asymptotically accurate when the number of samples increases, certain exceptions do exist. The major objectives of this study are to reveal the conditions of the applicability of Monte Carlo method and to provide new insights into the accuracy of the simulation results in stochastic structural analysis. Firstly, a simple problem of a spring with random axial stiffness subject to a deterministic tension is investigated, using… More >

Applicability of the Boundary Particle Method

    F.Z. Wang 1,2,3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.80, No.3&4, pp. 201-218, 2011, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2011.080.201

Abstract In this paper, we consider the boundary particle method (BPM) which is excellent in solving inhomogeneous partial differential equations in terms of solution accuracy and simplicity. In order to investigate the applicability of the BPM, we examine the relationship between its solution accuracy and the effective condition number. We show that the effective condition number, which estimates system stability with the right-hand side vector taken into account, is inversely proportional to the root mean square error in the numerical approximation. Moreover, for noisy-boundary cases, we find that the BPM can not yield reasonable results, for More >
