Abstract Background: Aortic root dilatation occurs in adults with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) after surgical repair, but the longitudinal changes are unclear. The main research aim is to determine the annual dilatation rate of aorta in adults with repaired TOF. Methods: The present, multicentric, prospective cohort study assessed the rate of aortic diameter change in adults aged 20 years or older with TOF, including pulmonary artery atresia, who underwent surgical repair. Clinical data, focusing on echocardiograms, were collected at three-year intervals from seven hospitals. Results: In total, 104 patients (58 males; median age: 29 years) were enrolled.… More > Graphic Abstract

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.14, No.2, pp. 256-263, 2019, DOI:10.1111/chd.12718

Abstract Objective: The bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is the most common congenital heart dis‐ ease. The process of aortic dilatation is not completely clear in patients with the BAV. Apelin is a peptide found at high levels in vascular endothelial cells which has a role in vascular regulation and cardiovascular function. The aim of this study was to de‐ termine the relationship between serum apelin levels and ascending aortic dilatation in adult patients with BAV.
Design: This cross‐sectional study included 62 patients with isolated BAV and to an age, gender, and body mass index‐matched control group of 58… More >

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.13, No.2, pp. 217-221, 2018, DOI:10.1111/chd.12554

Abstract Objective: The effects of pregnancy on autograft dilatation and neoaortic valve function in patients with a Ross procedure have not been studied. We sought to evaluate the effect of pregnancy on autograft dilatation and valve function in these patients with the goal of determining whether pregnancy is safe after the Ross procedure.
Design: A retrospective chart review of female patients who underwent a Ross procedure was conducted.
Patients: Medical records for 51 patients were reviewed. Among the 33 patients who met inclusion criteria, 11 became pregnant after surgery and 22 did not.
Outcome Measures: Echocardiographic reports were used to… More >
