Analytical Modeling of Internal Thermal Mass: Transient Heat Conduction in a Sphere under Constant, Exponential, and Periodic Ambient Temperatures

    Liangjian Lei1,2, Yihang Lu1,2,*

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.23, No.6, pp. 2109-2126, 2025, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2025.072643 - 31 December 2025

Abstract Internal thermal mass, such as furniture and partitions, plays a crucial role in enhancing building energy efficiency and indoor thermal comfort by passively regulating temperature fluctuations. However, the irregular geometry of these elements poses a significant challenge for accurate modeling in building energy simulations. This study addresses this gap by developing a rigorous analytical model that idealizes internal thermal mass as a sphere, thereby capturing multi-directional heat conduction effects that are neglected in simpler one-dimensional slab models. The transient heat conduction within the sphere is solved analytically using Duhamel’s theorem for three representative indoor air… More >

Analytical Modeling and Comparative Analysis of Capillary Imbibition in Shale Pores of Various Geometries

    Jin Xue, Boyun Guo*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.144, No.3, pp. 3307-3328, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2025.069909 - 30 September 2025

Abstract Fluid imbibition from hydraulic fractures into shale formations is mainly affected by a combination of capillary forces and viscous resistance, both of which are closely related to the pore geometry. This study established five self-imbibition models with idealized pore structures and conducted a comparative analysis of these models. These models include circular, square, and equilateral triangular capillaries; a triangular star-shaped cross-section formed by three tangent spherical particles; and a traditional porous medium representation method. All these models are derived based on Newton’s second law, where capillary pressure is described by the Young-Laplace equation and viscous… More >

Modeling and Comprehensive Review of Signaling Storms in 3GPP-Based Mobile Broadband Networks: Causes, Solutions, and Countermeasures

    Muhammad Qasim Khan1, Fazal Malik1, Fahad Alturise2,*, Noor Rahman3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.142, No.1, pp. 123-153, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.057272 - 17 December 2024

Abstract Control signaling is mandatory for the operation and management of all types of communication networks, including the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) mobile broadband networks. However, they consume important and scarce network resources such as bandwidth and processing power. There have been several reports of these control signaling turning into signaling storms halting network operations and causing the respective Telecom companies big financial losses. This paper draws its motivation from such real network disaster incidents attributed to signaling storms. In this paper, we present a thorough survey of the causes, of the signaling storm problems More >

Analytical Modeling for Asymmetric Four-Point Bend End-Notched Flexure Delamination Testing of Composite Laminates Considering Friction

    Kaixin Xia1, Yu Gong2,*, Xinxin Qi3,4, Libin Zhao3,4,*, Linjuan Wang1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011650

Abstract The crack tip of the asymmetric four-point bend end-notched flexure (4AENF) delamination testing under shear loading often exhibits a proportion of mode I component, making it a typical mixed-mode I/II problem. Characterizing the total fracture toughness in 4AENF laminates is crucial for understanding the delamination phenomenon in composites. In this study, 4AENF tests were conducted on carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy asymmetric laminates to evaluate the total interlaminar fracture toughness under shear loading conditions. Additionally, the variation of interlaminar fracture toughness in asymmetric laminates with different fiber orientation angles was considered. Theoretical modelling was performed using an More >

Three-Dimensional Analytical Modeling of Axial-Flux Permanent Magnet Drivers

    Wenhui Li1, Dazhi Wang1,*, Shuo Cao2, Deshan Kong1, Sihan Wang1, Zhong Hua1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.1, pp. 259-276, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.034622 - 06 February 2023

Abstract In this paper, the axial-flux permanent magnet driver is modeled and analyzed in a simple and novel way under three-dimensional cylindrical coordinates. The inherent three-dimensional characteristics of the device are comprehensively considered, and the governing equations are solved by simplifying the boundary conditions. The axial magnetization of the sector-shaped permanent magnets is accurately described in an algebraic form by the parameters, which makes the physical meaning more explicit than the purely mathematical expression in general series forms. The parameters of the Bessel function are determined simply and the magnetic field distribution of permanent magnets and… More >
