    Identification and Molecular Characterization of the Alkaloid Biosynthesis Gene Family in Dendrobium catenatum

    Abstract As one of the main active components of Dendrobium catenatum, alkaloids have high medicinal value. The physicochemical properties, conserved domains and motifs, phylogenetic analysis, and cis-acting elements of the gene family members in the alkaloid biosynthesis pathway of D. catenatum were analyzed by bioinformatics, and the expression of the genes in different years and tissues was analyzed by qRT-PCR.     Abstract As a traditional herbal medicine, the major alkaloids in Uncaria rhynchophylla have been proven to have blood pressure-lowering and sedative effects. It is essential to develop an effective method for the determination of the major alkaloids in U. rhynchophylla.     Abstract Kadsura coccinea (Lem.) is a woody wine plant with a peculiar fruit enriched in important health-promoting compounds. The non-editable part of the fruit, i.e., the seed and peel, represents more than 60% of the fruit and is considered a biowaste.     Abstract Punarnavine (PN) has been isolated from the roots of Boerhaavia diffusa L. (Nyctaginaceae). It is an important medicinal plant with a vast historical ethnopharmacological background. Its identification resulted from the interrogation of ‘Punarnava’, a tribal medicinal product. The molecule exhibited its position as incipient anticancer therapeutic agent. The inhibition of NFκB, ATF-2, c-Fos, and CREB-1 are one of the underlying mechanisms of anticancer action along with modification of the immune system. In this study, crude alkaloid extract of R. stricta (CAERS) coated with silver nanoparticles (CAERS-AgNPs) as potential treatment against diabetes in DM animal model was evaluated.     Abstract A comparison was made between plants of Solanum torvum Sw that grow in Chiapas, Mexico, and plants of the same species originating from India. This was effected to establish either similarities or differences between these plants in total alkaloid contents and presence of solasodine, an important alkaloid for the partial synthesis of steroids.
